I will first start off by saying my girlfriend gets a lot of things delivered to my house from ordering online and she always gets things that are delivered. This past Sat night we had some pretty good thunder and lightning in the area which woke her and my mom up from the noise. After they were awake, I heard my elderly mother call my name which woke my up, 15 mins later I went to check on her and she was asleep as was my GF.

I woke up around 10:30 AM that morning and noticed my mailbox was knocked over so I didnt think there was any rush to go pick it up as mail is not delivered here in the States on Sunday. I noticed my front yard wall to my house was hit and a few big rocks were all out of place on the sidewalk so I moved them out of the way so people could walk on it safely.

Between 9 and 10 AM, my neighbor saw a UPS truck in front of my house to deliver something my GF ordered, which she didnt tell me about till the next day. When she went to look for the package there wasnt anything at my front door. That very same day, she received an email saying it was delivered and left at my front door when in reality, it wasnt.

Would you guys think it was the driver who damaged the wall and just say it was delivered in order to say it wasnt his fault or could it have been the lightning?

Your opinions are welcomed.

TIA

The Boca Deb

If the package was left at your front door, lightning storm or no lightning storm, and it's not there now I would say that the package itself was stolen.  I would press the issue with UPS and want to see THEIR documentation.

Please do keep us posted on this, if you can.

Thx for replying but my question is did the lightening strike the wall or did the delivery driver hit it, took off after hitting it and just said the package was delivered and in reality, it wasnt.

Your thoughts people?

In the UK, the delivery driver takes a photo of the package on the doorstep after ringing your door bell (and then steps back - Covid rules)

So the photo on his smartphone is his proof of delivery of the package - it includes YOUR front door, maybe the house number and sometimes you opening the front door to pick up the package .Some delivery companies have an auto receipt = they press a button on their smartphone to confirm they have delivered and that triggers an email to be sent to you to confirm .

I didn't know that lightening struck rocks, brickwork etc, normally it strikes at the highest point which is why some tall buildings have a lightening conductor fitted (a thick copper or lead cable that is earthed)

If lightning struck the rocks or wall or whatever, there would probably be obvious burn marks. I'm no expert, but photos I've seen generally show telltale signs. If, on the other hand, a vehicle hit the rocks / wall you would probably see evidence of them being struck, scrapes and scratches.

I typically get email notices of a delivery a few minutes after a package was delivered. Have you contacted UPS and told them you didn't get the package?

Wouldn't be surprised if someone stole the package, lot of porch piracy going on lately.
