Upgrading CPU - Will Windows 10 recognise it on first boot?

Hi guys,

A little bit of advice please.

I am going to upgrade my processor, it is compatible with my motherboard and Bios.

It is a straight swap of an AMD Ryzen 5 for a slightly more powerful one.

Do I need to remove the old processor from device manager in Windows 10 before the change?

Once the new CPU is in place, does Windows 10 recognise it automatically on the next boot up?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

As long as you make sure everything is in-place (compatibility of CPU and mobo) you should be OK, just go ahead and replace the CPU.

I don't know if it's even possible to uninstall CPU in device manager on a running computer, and I'm not going to test it! :D

All will be fine, no problem at all. Just not forget & check some BIOS settings.

UPDATE:

All went well.

The Bios was up to date.

Old heatsink and cpu removed and new ones installed in less than 15 minutes.

Booted into Bios - to check it was correct cpu installed.

Then into Windows 10, new CPU found automatically. Just had to reinstall chipset drivers.

Thanks for posting the update.  It can always help when someone else have the same question.
