mood
Katy Perry and Pikachu are super best-friends in her Pokemon music video Turns out Pichu was the Electric secret to her success. Turns out Pikachu has been the secret of Katy Perry's musical success. The Pokemon Company After teasing it back in January, Katy Perry released the video for her song Electric on Friday. It tells a cute story about her long friendship with Pikachu and sees the pair visiting her past to find a younger Perry struggling to get motivated in early days as a musician. Her Pichu -- Pikachu's baby form -- helps her get through the tough times. The video was shot in Hawaii and directed by Carlos López Estrada, who also wrote and directed Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. "The song's themes -- resilience, igniting your inner light -- have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon's story and characters," Perry said in a release. "Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness." Pikachu wasn't quoted in the release, but I imagine he would've said "Pika-pi!" or something like that. The song is part of the Pokemon "P25" anniversary celebration -- it's been a quarter century since Pokemon Red and Green came out on Nintendo Game Boy in Japan. Rapper Post Malone headlined a virtual concert and released a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish's '90s classic Only Wanna Be With You in February, with more musical events and releases coming over the rest of the year. Also in February, the Pokemon Company revealed some major new games for Nintendo Switch: Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are coming out later this year, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus arrives in early 2022. New Pokemon Snap came out last month. Source: Katy Perry and Pikachu are super best-friends in her Pokemon music video
