mood
Rainbow Board is an open source whiteboard application with customizable brush colors MS Paint will always have a special place in many people's memories. Not due to its features, but because some of us may have used it to doodle mindlessly, it was an unusual way to relax. Rainbow Board is an open source app that lets you doodle while keeping the experience somewhat simpler than Paint. It has an odd start screen, the only option that you may find useful here is the Start New button. Click on it to access its main screen. The app's interface is quite minimal, it has a large blank canvas for your doodles. A toolbar is located at the bottom of the screen, and the first tool here, is the brush. This is what you'll be using for freehand drawing. What are you waiting for, doodle away. You may adjust the size of the brush by using the slider at the top of the screen. Made a mistake while drawing? Hit the undo (left arrow button). Changed your mind? That's what the redo button is for. If you want to delete a portion of your creation, use the eraser tool, which can be accessed from the second option on the toolbar. Rainbow Board has a straight line tool that you can use for geometrical shapes, well except circular ones. This tool has its own brush size as well. You can save your doodles as a PNG image. Do be careful with the option, as the program will always try to save the picture with the name Slide.PNG, and you may accidentally overwrite an existing image and lose your priceless masterpiece. So, make sure to give it a different name while saving. Want a clean slate? Hit the 2nd icon from the right to start over. Well you can't have Rainbow in the name and not have a color palette, right? Of course the app has one, click on the 4th icon on the toolbar to bring it up, and you'll be able to select the brush and line color. Don't be fooled by the seemingly limited list of colors, click on the color code in the bottom left corner, and you can enter any Hex color you want. The Home button takes you back to the app's homescreen. There is one option here which some people may like, it is the one located near the bottom left corner. Toggle the switch and the interface will use a dark mode, which looks really nice and if you don't like the default ink color (white), you can always switch to a different one. Rainbow Board is an Electron app available for Windows and Linux, it is not a portable program. Like many of its kind, this Electron app tends to be quite heavy on resources and used about 420MB-ish worth of memory while I had it running in the background. The app's usage shot upwards of 500MB while I doodled on it. The program is okay for casual usage, and the only thing that's missing is a text tool. I have a lot more trouble scrawling words with the mouse, than doodling.
