me22ml
The way in which we consume entertainment has changed drastically over recent years and especially during the pandemic. It's becoming much more common to stream movies and TV shows rather than renting or purchasing them outright. Sony realizes this and is reacting to it. As the PlayStation.Blog reveals, right now you can visit the PlayStation Store and find a wide variety of TV shows and movies to either rent or buy. However, both options are set to disappear on Aug. 31 as Sony decided to no longer offer such entertainment alongside digital games. According to Vanessa Lee, Head of Video Business at Sony Interactive Entertainment, the decision was taken because, "We’ve seen tremendous growth from PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-based entertainment streaming services on our consoles. With this shift in customer behavior, we have decided to no longer offer movie and TV purchases and rentals through PlayStation Store." If you've used the PlayStation Store to purchase movies and TV shows in the past, don't worry, you can still access that content for on-demand playback through a PS4, PS5, or mobile device. That will remain the case for all content purchased through the store right up until the end of August. After that, both categories will disappear so no further purchases can be made.
