Sony Might Decrease PlayStation 3 Performances

It seems that Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., PlayStation game consoles manufacturer, could lower the performances of its upcoming console in order to meet production volume targets, informs X-bit Labs.

Consequently, if Sony will decrease the performance of the given functions, PlayStation 3 may also lower the graphics and physics quality of the games developed especially for Sony’s device.

It seems that another ‘off the record information’ was published by Kotaku web-site. Therefore, Sony is said to decrease the clock-speed of the Cell processor in the console to 2.80GHz (down from 3.50GHz expected initially) and could also use in the end an external power supply of 400W, indicating, according to X-bit Labs, that there isn’t much space inside the console.

“The current designs despite having vents all over the place apparently still can’t dissipate the heat to sufficient levels,” the anonymous source claimed.

The ‘Phantom Rider’ – this week’s mysterious source, the third since last week, said that the only component without problems is Nvidia’s RSX graphics processor, as it “has been finished for quite a few months now”.

If you remember, last week, another undisclosed source revealed the fact that the games developers might have used powerful PCs, with high-speed Nvidia GeForce 7900 graphics cards in SLI mode or even ATI’s Radeon X1900 in CrossFire mode, to show their latest development instead of a PS3. Moreover, the manufacturers masked the PCs underneath PS3 showcases.

Nobody is surprised when speaking about the way console manufacturers use to tease consumers before they launch the product, but the titles developers are really worried at the perspective of these changes, that might have quite an effect on the way the ‘games act’.
