Karlston
Windows 10 File Explorer concept suggests virtual and tagged folders The Windows 10 File Explorer has not seen massive innovation over the last 10 years, which means there is lots of scope for concept designers to suggest improvements. This is exactly what designer Zee-Al-Eid Ahmad Rana did, with some new ideas on how the Windows 10 File Explorer could be improved. His first idea is improvements to the Customise Folder options. He proposes that users should be able to tag folders (for example work or home) and select a colour associated with the tag. That colour would then be applied as a small ribbon to the folder icon. He also suggests that the resurfaced Customise Folder option also allows users to select a completely new icon for the folder ( a feature which is of course already present but buried). Secondly, he also suggests Windows should let users create virtual folders. This is similar to Windows libraries but can be created anywhere, and can contain and folders from elsewhere in the file system. Many of these concepts, of course, brings to mind the old Filesystem as a Database idea from 20 years ago, and it is likely about time these concepts become reality.
