<img src="/images/logos/uTor.png" class="logo" alt="µTorrent" title="µTorrent" />µTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. It was designed to use as little cpu, memory and space as possible while offering all the functionality expected from advanced clients. With µTorrent, you can download files faster and contribute by sharing files and bandwidth. Additionally, µTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above, BitComet 0.63 and above) and peer exchange.

Thanks to SacredCultivator for the update.

Sorry, I'll remember to add the version number (#####) after 2.0/2.1 for the future.

Getting closer to Final I'm hoping... For some reason RC4 consistently crashed/froze on me around 10 minutes after opening... So now using 2.1, not too sure if I'll return to 2.0 until it goes final.

I'm using RC4 now, I didn't get any crashes though. Guess our situation is reversed this time around huh. I remember there was a time I was getting crashes every few mins but you weren't. I am taking full advantage of uTP right now. You guys should try playing around with the bt.transp_disposition setting. Currently I have mines set to 14 to allow incoming TCP and uTP but only allow outgoing uTP.

Plenty TCP connections cause some routers to crash so I should advise DKT to set this parameter to 10 in his case to disable all TCP and only allow uTP to see if it helps his router problems.

That's cool.

My favourite private tracker has decided to only allow µTorrent up to 1.8.3 for now. So I'm at 1.8.3 (Build 1610).

@ LeetPirate:I guess when I get back home, I'll try using a bt.transp_disposition setting of 14, as I believe mine is set at 15 (default)

Default is indeed 15. I don't have much problems but I'll do try taking it to 10.

They have a new parameter with a value of 16 that uses a new header, I guess people who live in places where the ISP actively throttles p2p could experiment with that new header. The only thing is that so far only the latest uTorrent and Bittorrent clients support it. It's explained fully in the help file. To use the new header just add 16 to whatever value you were using before.

The help file also mentions that setting the bt.transp_disposition to 255 will ensure it enables every possible new feature added in future.

Actually, I do have problems uploading. I don't even get half speed at times. And many times my uploading goes down to nothing for few mins even when I have 10 leechers and I'm being the only seeder. I have 56KB/s DL and 25KB/s UL. What do you suggest Leet?

Your case is special, lol, I guess I could make some guesses about what you could try.

Set the global max upload rate to 16 or 20 so you won't hit your ceiling value of 25.

Set net.calc_overhead to true so the bandwidth usage you see will include the overhead bandwidth thus giving a true estimation of the actual bandwidth being used.

Set net.utp_target_delay to a higher value than 100, say about 200.

Set peer.disconnect_inactive_interval to a higher value than 300, say around 600.

Along with other suggestions I gave you in the past, like reducing the global connection limit (maybe 50), reducing the number of connected peers per torrent (maybe 5 or 10), setting number of upload slots per torrent to 1, disabling the checkbox below so it won't open more slots per torrent if the speed < 90%.

Under connection settings make sure you did not enable both UPnP and NAT-PMP because both are different implementations of the same feature. For curiosity sake, I will answer the question now, NAT-PMP is Apple's version of UPnP. NAT-PMP is superior to UPnP but they just use different methods to achieve the same thing, opening/closing ports automatically when software requests it. You should not enable both setting in uTorrent because it will waste time trying to use both. Normally UPnP daemons use plenty ram on a router thus making it work slower so ideally you should disable UPnP in your router and just port forward instead. I also recommended you try to get latest firmware for your router.

Ensure you force encryption on all outgoing connections and test out the values with the bt.transp_disposition to see what works best for you, possibly 10 will work best, not sure.

That's all I can really think of right now. Let's hope something helps else buy new internet.

I'll report later, on how it's gone.

I've disabled both UPnP and NAT-PMP as I heard there's no use for them if you have done portforwarding properly.

Disable UPnP in your router too, it will save ram and cpu resources inside the router.

I don't know the hell of how much RAM my router has, but all I know is my router sucks. What company do you suggest is good for ADSL +2 routers?

And yea I have it disabled in my router page.

ASUS is my best suggestion for good dsl routers.

LOL have you read this article about your modem? I was trying to find a firmware update for you but I got that article instead.

I know. Even I found the same one when I was trying to find same thing few months ago. With that article, I came to conclusion that I didn't had a bad piece but a bad model. Well, everywhere I read, I find that these days D-Link adsl router sucks more. I'll see if my ISP supports asus.

It's easier than that, you don't need to ask them because they will give you a stupid answer and tell you they don't support any routers they don't sell. dsl operates using certain standards so most likely you are using Annex-A DSL and any other dsl modem should work including the Asus. Asus WL-AM604 or WL-AM602 are good ones, there are others that come bundled with wireless but they are more expensive and you may not need them.

Maybe if you use PPPoE you could configure your modem to be a bridge and set up a PPPoE connection in Windows.

Well I'm not even sure what I'm looking at with a setting of 14, as I'm still maxing out my Up speed. so I think I'll leave it at that for now =P

hi D,is there any relation between choosing da option upnp and download speed?as u said b4 here u disabled upnp option :fear:

It's not to get better speeds, just to help people who have certain problems. For example uTP instead of TCP can help people who can't browse a website while uTorrent is working, it can help people with ISP that throttles p2p, and also for routers that crash with too many TCP connections. Right now I am just testing out different options with it. I may switch to full uTP and no TCP to help push the new transition and alleviate ISP loads, thereby causing them to get off our backs, lol.

The relationship between UPnP and download speed is complex and sometimes non-existent. The only time I know UPnP to cause slowdowns is when it causes router slowdowns. All routers are not equal, the latest WRT54G v8.2 for example only has 8MB of ram, if you enable UPnP on that crapbox you will probably only be able to sustain a maximum of 256-512 connections before the router starts to use 100% cpu because the ram gets filled to capacity. You see all routers run an OS inside and UPnP is analogous to a service in Windows, it will use ram and cpu resources to work, therefore if the router is weak it is best to disable UPnP and use port forwarding.

@Leetpirate: Please have a look at this ebay link and see which wired router would you recommend?

I really don't understand what are these bridge connections. I have not set it in my router.

About TCP-UDP, even when I had set my connection to default 15, show statistics thingy shows zero(0) TCP connection. And about 20 UDP.

I don't really know much about the internal hardware of those models but I guess if I had to pick one I would get the Netgear DM111. It's a good price and they have some recent firmware updates. Just a pick based on the information I saw.

@leetpirate: Saw some bad reviews but lets see.

I wont use USB but it's only USB1.1.

And Memory: 2 MB Flash, 8 MB DRAM. I have no idea in this, is it enough?

EDIT: This router is ATM, most commonly used in mumbai.
