Alleged car thief caught playing Grand Theft Auto

Legend has it that people play video games and then go out to imitate the behavior that those games encourage. May I present evidence that this may not be the case?

According to the Associated Press, police in Polk County, Fla., were pursuing someone who allegedly stole a 1998 Dodge Durango. Suddenly, they espied the car parked outside a home in Haines City. How could they not investigate who or what might be inside the house?

I feel confident in imagining that not one police officer emitted the slightest chuckle on noticing Michael Ray Ekes, 30, in the house, allegedly doing something lesser souls might find uncontrollably gigglifying.

Chicken or egg?

He was allegedly playing a video game. You could not possibly imagine which one. Go on, guess. The picture gives you a clue. Yes, it was Grand Theft Auto."

I, too, am maintaining an entirely movement-free face as I type that Ekes was charged on Thursday with grand theft auto, burglary, and drug possession. It is not funny. These are serious things--as is the fact that Ekes has already enjoyed the gaze of police officers previously. He was out on bond for--oh, please excuse me, for a second, terrible cough suddenly hit me--a charge of grand theft auto.

Who among you is confident that any alleged grand thieving of automobiles by Ekes was committed before he ever set eyes on the great fender-filching game? And who will insist that it was the game that served as his alleged inspiration?

Gosh, here they are whining about vid games.

of course it happens, but people with normal functioning braines can see difference between virtual gaming and reallife. A smart person wont just do something in a game in reallife. (like theft auto, killing people etc.)

Yea, there are crazy people, you can't deny that..

I'm a fan of GTA.. bought every game of it and I hate it when they blame it on the game. Maybe the person himself is just that crazy to do such stuff in reallife.

The person can be called crazy.

(Not related)I just don't like when violent games are exposed to young children like in the age of, you may say 10. I've seen them performing things in real that they have learned from violent games etc.

Yeah like trying to do back-flips and spin like SONIC.. that was funny as hell... Before its all over we will have to have tests to make sure we are not slightly retarded before slipping away into an 'ALTERNATE' perception that so many seem to not be able to handle ( no matter how simple of n idea this is )... Like the guy who entertains the idea of taking over the world.. or something.. with his robotized GI Joe's with the kung-fu grip... Like people who blame guns for death... or drugs on stupidity... alcohol fr a loss rationalism..

I guess I am up for a jet-propelled hovercraft ( + 437 MPH ) with Plasma-bolts... several billion dollars and a garage full of 500 cars of my choice full-modded ... to drive anyway I want. pit crew.. and 0 responsibility... Oh and then I think I puke lightning t the cashier at the local convenient store when they run out of my favorite energy drink and do a nice finishing move with her lifeless corpse... :lmao:

Really.. I think it would be more like people who are into that kind of thing to begin with.. are drawn to it... Someone PLEASE get some help to pull their head out of their @$$.. PLEASE.. I'll even setup a donation site to pay the crew... You ever wonder how backward and twisted manipulation and perception can be?

What this douche proved was pure bullshit. His source was from one man, who probably has something going on in his head.

He should try to provide an empirical qualitative assessment on the gaming community. It should make his assumptions a little more valid.

I agree with DKT, kids should abstain from this. They haven't even reach the age of reason, they can't even tell from black and white. Or maybe it's just the fault of the parents. Just my 2 cents.

The article doesn't really point towards either view. It just raises questions ;)

Would be cool to see how the game industry reacts when someone stealing a car got tempted to play the game, there could be a new marketing approach in there :P You know, bait cars, you let them steal the cars but just put a transmitter in there and then float their homes with GTA ads and steal the car back!

By violent games I don't mean normal ones but I mean the real violent ones that makes child think to perform the act in real. And not the games that have violence but the violence is nominal.
