i assume you mean a 7zip archive that is password protected.. in which case.. after a quick search.. i found an app called 7zcracker

quote "7z Cracker is an opensource cracking tool which can extract any password protected 7zip file. It is developed for the purpose of helping users recover their files if they have forgotten the password." note is doesnt do encrypted,

quote2 "Editor’s Important Note: While adding files to 7zip archive, just below the passwords field there is an option to encrypt the file name. While testing I observed that once this option is checked, 7zCracker will not be able to extract your files."

Just tested this.. its a hoax app..

thanks but no, encryption and locked archives are 2 different things, if you take the installer for startisback as an example, open it in 7z and you'll see all the files, but try to add to the archive and you cant. I know theres a tool: https://github.com/CryptoNickSoft/7z-SFX-Constructor which looks like it should be able to do it but ive had no success.

P.s. The latest versions of 7Zip use AES256 by default so the only way to "crack" or decrypt an encrypted archive without the password is brute force. This is time consuming and the longer the password the harder it is and more time it will take could even take longer than you live (with today's consumer level tech).

I've just grabbed the startisback installer from their website  and unpacked with Winrar  (5.91), and got the below file / folders:-

Not sure if that's what you're attempting to do, if not you need to clarify exactly what you are trying to do.

Ah now I get you. I suspect it's extracted, the required files patched (xor'd, nop'd, et cetera) and then possibly repacked, given the primary installer isn't a 7zip file.

It maybe worth grabbing an 'patched' version, and then the same version but 'unpatched'  and then comparing the patched and unpatched files side by side in a hex editor.

if the file his trying to unpack isnt a 7zip but a portable exe file.. then it would be a good idea to download a app which can scan and tell him what app created it..

a few apps spring to mind ..all freeware..

Die aka Detect-it-easy..

Protection-id

Nauz File detector.

Then once the information has been found as to the compiler.. then a decompiler..  and maybe an unpacker if they packed the patched file..
