When Samsung announced the Galaxy Note20 lineup earlier this month, it promised support for up to three OS updates for the devices and some of its older devices. However, the company did not mention as to which of its devices would be eligible for three OS updates. Today, it has provided a full list of all the devices that are going to be eligible for three generations of Android OS updates.

The list of devices includes the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20, Galaxy S10 lineup, and all their different variants, Galaxy Note20 and Note10 lineup, all of Samsung's foldable devices including the Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Fold2, and their various variants. Additionally, some of Samsung's A-series devices like the Galaxy A71 5G, A51 5G, A51, and A90 5G are also a part of the program.

For tablets, Samsung will be providing three OS updates to the Galaxy Tab S6/Lite and Tab S7 series. Apart from all the mentioned devices above, Samsung also promises three OS updates for all its upcoming Galaxy S, Galaxy Note, Galaxy A, and Tab S series of devices.

“Samsung is committed to supporting our users to fully enjoy the latest mobile experiences while they are using Galaxy devices,” said Janghyun Yoon, Senior Vice President and Head of Software Platform Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “As people hold onto their devices for longer, we are working to bring secure protection and exciting new features to the devices already in their hands. By supporting up to three generations of Android OS upgrade, we are extending the lifecycle of our Galaxy products and making a promise that we will provide a simple and secure mobile experience that takes advantage of the latest innovations as soon as they are available.”

Samsung also noted in its announcement that it will be bringing the Android 11 update to its Galaxy S20 lineup later this year and its other devices will "follow shortly thereafter."

Yet, entry-level phones are sidelined by major OS updates. If they were updated, only able to support up to 1 or 2 major OS updates.

Also, don't expect they can catch up with release cadence of Android updates which Android One smartphones can get in time and earlier than non Android One smartphones.
