For starters try reading lots of English newspapers and articles and build your vocabulary by referring to any good dictionary, it will help a lot.

Learning a language is all about vocabulary, grammar and fluency.

OFC if you are talking about IELTS point of view then just refer the study material on the net.

ashish,

that's a big question to answer because different people have different

preferences...I mean, some people like to have a private language teacher,

others like to be in a class with other students, others like to learn using

language DVD's. I can only tell you what made a great difference for me

when I was "learning" Spanish. Since I'm living in a Spanish speaking country

you would think that it would be easy for me to learn quickly....but, due to

the personality that I have (lazy), I seemed to be stuck at the same low level for

years. Then I started to do translations of documents in a company where I

was teaching English to Spanish employees.

The documents had to be translated from English to Spanish. Now at first this

was very very slow. I had to keep checking a dictionary for every second word.

It was very tedious, but I persevered because I'm stubborn!! lol

Anyway, my Spanish improved much faster than in the previous years when

I thought I could "pick up" the language just by listening. I was wrong. You need

to read and write as much as listen and speak. People began to comment that my

Spanish had improved and that gave me  the encouragement to go on.

So my advice to you is try translating (anything) from your language to English.Start with

short texts and then gradually move on to longer ones. I repeat, it IS tedious at first....but

you will begin to recognize words and contexts that you didn't know before and your speed

will increase.

You seem to already have a level of English, so this might help you move up a level. Good luck!!:clap::clap:

Bro I am reading a english newspaper english newspaper on a daily basis now.

I came across many words which I do not know, but still there are some words which puzzles my mind.

As far as my grammar is concerned I am looking for an app in which the daily practice can be done to increase my fluency

Can you suggest any?

You have done quite good on your own to excel at a different language, I admire you for that

I am just reading now not writing and translating the sentences into my mind

I used to study editorials but the language and the context is the problem which I thoroughly can not understand

So now I read city and nation news as there are little jargons in it as compared to the editorials, now the God knows when I will be excelled in reading the editorials

Will ask around my friends for that.

BTW I liked @funkyy idea better as translation makes you think in different language which is rather more important for fluency and vocabulary.

There is a book "word power made easy". Buy and read that.

Also, Watch english movies with subtitles. Pause after the sentences and words you don't understand. Google the meaning and try to memorize it.

When you read, read out loud. It's not enough to think about the words. You need to pronounce them. Fluency comes from practice. I'm a native french speaker and when I'm alone I think out loud and in english.

Before doing that I was losing some vocabulary!

For grammer and syntax, there's really no short way about it. My suggestion would be to take up night schooling in elementary school english. You wont regret it. Instead of fumbling around you will get a precise curriculum and learn the basics at your own pace.

For a student of English (in my opinion) keeping handy a copy of The Elements of Style is a must (in my opinion).

For reading practice, another alternative is to read books on a subject that really interests you.

@ashish1989 Good luck!

And ya, I was watching english movies with subtitles since many years but ya do not pause it like the way you are telling

I was reading out loud but I didn't continue it for many days, I thought this method was not helping.

The above advice was given to me when i asked the same question you asked of my English professor who was temporarily visiting my country and was teaching temporarily to meet his expenses.

He asked what books i read in my language.  Detective (jasusi) stories, i replied. He suggested I read Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.  Which one first i asked?  Start with "The Hound of the Baskervilles" he said.  Took me a few months with a dictionary lookup almost every one to  five minutes.  i followed with  "The Sign of the Four."  Then it became a marathon and i devoured the entire Sherlock Holmes series in a few years.

Slow and steady makes one Ekalavya.

@ashish1989 Good luck!

I will sure look out for this book, lets hope it will help me. As far as books are concerned I am not reading any but I have started to read newspaper on a daily basis but I can not read for a long time, I loose my focus and interest

All externals are mere tools.  Only you can help yourself.  As @funkyy said the process is tedious so one needs a strong motivator to practice.  The key is practice, practice, and more practice.  An unassailable interest is a prerequisite to maintain focus.  A  continual reminder that "drop by drop is the water pot filled" does help.

ashish1989....there's a little program called "Q-Translate" that is free to download (search it on Nsane).

It's small and very convenient to use. When I need to check a Spanish word's meaning or its spelling I just click

on the Q-Translate icon and a small window opens where I can type the word (or even sentence) in English and it

automatically shows the Spanish equivalent....or Spanish to English. The program covers a lot of languages not just

Spanish and English. It made my translation work much faster...no more turning dictionary pages with bleary eyes!!

I also recommended the program to my students when I was teaching. 100% recommended!!:dance::dance:
