LastPass adds new 'Security Dashboard' and dark web monitoring features for passwords

Password manager LastPass has today announced that it is bringing a new ‘Security Dashboard’ to let users manage the security and integrity of their passwords and accounts better. The feature is available for all users of the service. However, a more extensive dark web monitoring option is limited to Premium, Families, and business users.

 

The Security Dashboard provides users with an overview of the security of accounts linked to the tool, giving users an overall score depending on the number of action items pending. The panel also suggests the number of ‘at-risk passwords’, prompting users to change them depending on how strong the passwords are. The score also takes into consideration the availability of multi-factor authentication for the accounts.

 

The dark web monitoring feature further improves the security of linked accounts by checking for compromised email ID and credentials against its partner Enzoic’s database. If such credentials or accounts are found, the service notifies users via email and in-product notifications to prompt them to update their passwords. The company also adds that all the monitoring happens “in the background” and that it does not involve any user action, that is until the tool serves an alert.

 

These features are nifty improvements to the password manager. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are also bringing password monitors to help users secure their credentials. Though users of LastPass will end up with redundant tools when those features are added to the browsers, the added security is always a good thing to have.

I dropped Last Pass after their last huge vulnerability and don't trust their security. They probably run all your usernames and passwords through google to see if they show up anywhere.
