hi frenz,,i saw u people discussing about firefox browsing speed and some other ,,why dont u try for cometbird..n u no need to worry about trying another browser,,coz its 99.9999% similar to firefox.i swear scrolling in cometbird is smoother than firefox.and its loads faster than firefox.all extensions of firefox also work fine in cometbird.most of da tweaks u try to make in firefox were already stitched in cometbird.i am not insisting u people to use cometbird.but thers no problem i think if u give it a try.test it.if u like it go for it.dont mistake me.i wanna give u people a better option if u like it and agree with me.thank u but i wish atleat once u wil test cometbird for browsing speed..thank u

Hi.. problems with startup time might be solved:

- Cleaning cookies

- Cleaning cookie sites (SpyBot adds thousands of forbidden servers)

- Managing cookies with CS Lite (sice it's not compatible with my SM2, i've decided to reject cookies from third persons and allow them only for current session, so they're deleted on exit; if you want permanet cookies from certain site, you can set it through Tools->Cookie Manager)

- Limiting your navigation history, not allowing 5-year logs and 10^20 URLs xD

- Compacting databases (*.SQLite)

- Uninstalling it xDDDDD

Hmm I was thinking that it will keep the v3.5.7 installed and install besides it.

How about settings, cookies, extentions, does Mr Tech Toolkit work properly?

Maybe, just maybe, if you change the installation directory it might install alongside v3.5.7?

I don't have Mr Tech Toolkit installed, so can't confirm if it is working/or not at this time.

Get it, it's posted here.

It will help all of your favorite extensions to work in new firefox versions with just a few clicks. :dance2:

I know that Firefox 3.6 Beta 5 will install into a separate directory and it will not touch your existing Firefox 3.5.7. They must share the same profile though.

When I installed Firefox 3.6 RC1 (an update install over 3.5.7), it removed 3.5.7 from my Add/Remove Programs ('Uninstall a program' on Windows 7). The About Mozilla Firefox box shows this to be Firefox 3.6 (no RC1 is shown). But by default it overwrote my Firefox 3.5.7. If you installed Firefox 3.6 RC1 into a different folder than 3.5.7, then PERHAPS you could keep both installs, but I have not tried that and I do not think I would recommend it either. The Release Notes for Release Candidate 1 say under the Installing section:

Please note that installing Firefox 3.6 Release Candidate will not overwrite your existing installation of Firefox. You won’t lose any of your bookmarks or browsing history, but some of your extensions and other add-ons might not work until updates for them are made available.

but that sounds like a carryover from 3.6 Beta 5. I know the same thing was said back with 3.6 Beta 5 when it installed into a different folder.

Actually, before you posted this Night Owl, I've already installed 3.6 RC1 on the same directory 3.5.7 was installed. As expected it would be overwritten.

I really liked personas. It really looks great. No need to restart firefox to use the personas theme.

I can see some good speed increase but not really much. As of now I haven't used Speedyfox for this version. I'll see later. Same in surfing speed, I did saw some speed increase but it was not enough.

I don't really see any increase in start time and decrease in RAM usage.

So if anyone wants to try it, 3.6 RC1 does show some signs of speed but it's not enough if you ask me. And personas has really change the way it looks.

Luke DKT27, you used the force and updated to Firefox 3.6 RC1 !! Congratulations. :dance2:

Yeah, as I mentioned earlier, I saw no change in startup time, either. I don't know why they are claiming improved startup time. Have you adapted to the new tab behaviour?

Actually, I was wrong, I do see some increase in speeds while surfing. Some really nice ones. :D

No, because of tab mix plus, I've been able to open new tabs on the far right. ;)

But I plan to go with the flow.

BTW I forgot to mention, I made all of my extension work on RC1 with ease with MR Tech Tookit.

With a new version like 3.6.. it may be a good idea to erase everything after uninstall(after backing it all up).. profile, directories.. everything... Then do a fresh install and get your settings set manually and extensions installed manually.. You can also keep an eye on the Error Console during startup and see if your extensions are throwing any errors or warning..Sometimes they will not be anything that effects operation but speed in processing..

There is also a file in your profile called prefs.js.. This file can be riddled with old entries from uninstalled extensions. Their settings mostly, the file can become quite large and some settings to be applied can slow down startup if the file/extension/entries are invalid.. So you can shut down Firefox(because it locks this file and you can't edit while open .. even though it may seem that you have..it will rewrite it all) .. and clean out invalid entries.. You should also double-check all of the chrome folders inside each extension(or folder title) and make sure there aren't pieces of of extension left behind as well.. There also be other files.. old database files and other things laying around in the profile which can cause an issue..

Every time there is a major version update I do a fresh install/start for this very reason.. and I try to wait until the add-ons have been recoded to work like they should..( sometimes they don't however )

Really thanx for the info heath. :) . But I wont need to that all these as of now, within 1 month(more or less), I'll get a new PC and have Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed on it. I don't worry haw much crap I'll need to handle between those days. Then after that, my work will start. ;)

I'm planning that the only objects that I will backup would be the bookmarks. All the other things would be written in a notepad so that I'll need to find what I have on the net but it wont harm like the old files. ;)

I already use Profile manager every day. I have two profiles. One is locked by a extension that locks the profile by a password, if you know what I mean. ;)

I don't normally care about uninstalling, but you're being cautious, and that's good ^_^

Yeah actually an extension I use on my portable version actually does that 'Advanced Firefox Lock' ... Is yours locked by choice, or accident? .. and if it's AFL I know how to easily crack it wide open..no problem..

Yeah with me I will have that one thing go wrong and it will read some setting that will cause a problem somewhere.. LOL.. But yeah I always thought it would be a good idea.

It's locked purposely. The extension is called ProfilePassword for firefox. You wont see it on mozilla addons site. It can be found/downloaded from here.

Cool.. was doing my occasional scan through recent adds to the Extensions at the site and ran across it.. Thought I would pass it on.. I knew there were a few that liked it...So thought I would pas n the update that has come up.. I don't use it because I have a completely different UI design behind my system.. but ..anyway.. I ran across a little program that makes aero glass users system go 'Full Glass' at Deviantart.com too.. hanging on to it until I can test it myself..

Heath, I am currently using the All-Glass Firefox mod, based on Glasser v2.1.4 add-on that you recommended before to give Firefox a glass frame. I love it, but there is too much glass. (Why does Firefox keep insisting on always showing us those menus that waste screen real estate?) I must say that I really like your new find.

Hmmm, this FX4 1.2 add-on requires add-on "FX4 options 1.2.2" by the same author.

OK, I installed the Fx4 1.2 add-on that heath28m recommended earlier. It didn't show up though under Tools -> Add-ons. Then I installed the Fx4 options 1.2.2 add-on, but I do see "Options Fx4 theme 1.2.2" under Tools -> Add-ons.

It's a really nice theme. Firefox is now almost as efficient with screen real estate as Google Chrome and SRWare Iron.

But why doesn't it appear in my list of add-ons? Only the separate Options add-on appears. Is there any way to uninstall the Fx4 1.2 add-on?

EDIT: I even uninstalled the Options Fx4 theme 1.2.2 add-on, restarted Firefox, re-installed the Fx4 1.2 add-on, restarted Firefox, re-installed the Options Fx4 theme 1.2.2 add-on, and restarted Firefox, but only the Options Fx4 theme appears in my add-ons list.
