Windows hard drive defragmentation software has just taken a giant leap above and beyond any other defragmentation tool on the planet. With the new UltimateDefrag Version 4, you get all of the features of previous UltimateDefrag versions that you've come to find indispensable for defragging and optimizing your hard drive, plus a whole host of new powerful features that give you: 1. Even more power and control in optimizing your hard drive and 2. Clearly perceivable, faster Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 performance due to the hard drive optimization that UltimateDefrag allows.

Thanks to Astron for the update.

Here is a dumb question. How often do SSDs need to be defraged compared with hard drive?

You must never defrag an SSD; it will reduce its lifetime.

You defrag magnetic disks to reduce seek and access times - but there are no seek times on an SSD and access time is always the same, regardless where the data is.

Instead of defragmenting, it seems necessary to TRIM an SDD drive once in a while to mark deleted space as available again and thus evenly distribute the writing processes across the disc and reduce the overall tear.

I'll trim my SSD about once a month, but I am not sure if there is a definite rule about how often to do or not to do this.

It depends on the available space left and the amount of deletes and re-writes i guess. So on the Windows partition/drive it would be necessary more often than on a partition/drive dedicated to backups or personal data that does not change very often.
