Musk 'a year away from creating Six Million Dollar Man

Billionaire Elon Musk says the chips, which will be implanted in human brains, will allow paralysed people to walk again, similar to 1970s cult TV show The Six Million Dollar Man, starring Lee Majors

Space billionaire Elon Musk says he is just one year away from creating the ‘six million dollar man’.

The eccentric tech tycoon said implanting chips into the human brain will allow paralysed people to walk again.

His new device will help improve vision, strength and host of other injuries connected to the brain.

Musk, 48, said: “The device would be implanted in your skull.

“Electrode threads would be inserted carefully into the brain and you wouldn’t know that somebody has it.

“It can interface anywhere in the brain.

“In principle it can fix almost anything that is wrong with the brain and it can restore limb functionality.

“People can walk around and be normal - maybe slightly better - like the six million dollar man though these days that would be cheap.”

The Six Million Dollar Man was a hit 1970 TV series starring Lee Majors.

He played Colonel Steve Austin, an astronaut badly injured in a crash.

He was rebuilt using bionic implants to create a new right arm, two new legs and a new left eye giving him superhuman strength, speed and vision.

Musk made history by sending two astronauts into space in May to link up with the International Space Station in a privately built rocket for the first time.

Speaking on American comedian Joe Rogan’s podcast he said one of his firms called Nueralink planned to carry out tests within a year.

He added: “The device were are working on right now is about an inch in diameter.

“It has a battery and a blue tooth and a charger and the electrodes are inserted into the brain by robot.

“It can help with a range of brain injuries from epilepsy to stroke and muscle control and memory and eyesight.

“The device is a substitute for circuits that are broken.

“There is still a lot of work to do.

“When I say we’ve got a shot at putting this into a person in a year I mean exactly that hopefully restoring some functionality that they have lost.”

Musk believes creating a link between computers and the brain is essential for human survival.

All of  sudden, I wish my skull was large.  I would like a WiFi chip, cell phone chip, foreign language chip, PHD chip, ... etc.

I think colleges are in trouble.  Nobody will pay a small fortune and waste years of schooling when a chip implant will do.
