Has anybody used the new Brave Internet browser. It is supposedly more secure and faster than most commonly used browsers and wait for it.... no ads or tracking.

There are some issues with that study, or at least the way its conclusions are interpreted on the web. First off, all browsers track users, and the main task of the study was to determine how pervasive the fingerprinting is, which makes your device - and by extension, you - positively identifiable through the data they collect, despite it being "anonymised". Second, they only tried to mimic the behaviour of the most average user that made no changes to their settings.

So no real discussion of what can be disabled or tweaked in the back end of each browser, and no real discussion on the impact of browser-related services like sync and add-ons, that even privacy-minded users still have. It's nice that Brave was first and that's the result people love to tout, but does anyone truly believe that Chrome belongs in the same group as Firefox or that it deserves what amounts to a second place for privacy?

Bottom line - if you use privacy add-ons, if you attend to browser config files and gut the telemetry pipelines, and if you block your browser from calling home, in short, if you put in the work, almost all browsers will give you adequate service.
