Thanks Kalju, but I’m using the standard edition not the Business/Professional etc. I have no need for those extra features, so...

The downgrade did the trick, I’m back to normal. And by normal I mean I click the shortcut and CCleaner is up & running in less than a second.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that I've set some rules in the firewall (KIS) to block CCleaner’s outbound connections.

Every time the user is pressing "Run Cleaner" in "Custom Clean", the program is accessing the internet sending *reports*. I am NOT OK with this.

May ask why??! :wtf:

IMHO once a week, or in my case once a month is enough.

To flush anything "temp": Recycle Bin, Temporary files, Clipboard etc.

I also use "Registry Clearer" regularly (once a day), otherwise you end up with a long list. It’s easier to handle a few entries each time, they’re much more manageable don’t you think?

As for flushing things, I'm certain once a week will suffice, unless you are really truly running out of space that you need every last MB.

But with regard to "Registry Cleaner" although I do not recommend using that to any normal user (ones without proper knowledge of how windows registry works), if you are using a recent OS (pretty much anything beyond XP/7) you should not get any long list unless something is wrong with the OS or -with all due respect- the user's way of using the machine.

So based on that, I still believe there is no need for daily usage; leaving aside using such apps 4-5 times a day.

I just installed and did not witness and "lag" or delay in startup time. During the install, I noticed Winapp2 and winapp3? Have both of these always been there?

:), Winapp 2 has always been there, and if you select my cclauncher on install it will auto trim it for your system each time you run it. WinApp3 was added a few versions back.

This behavior with slow launch is caused by the fact that the executable(C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe) is blocked in your firewall.
If you unblock it from the firewall you'll notice that it will launch almost instantly.
Indeed,in the previous versions (< 5.66.0.7705) there was no such problem.

I'm currently using the latest PRO version. I blocked in firewall only CCUpdate.exe and added the line 127.0.0.1 license.piriform.com in host file.
As in any version which I used before, I unchecked from Privacy Settings &Information those 3 boxes and I disabled Automatic Smart Cleaning .
It works without problems.
However,if I have to worry about data collection and other telemetry stuff,I reconcile with the thought that I don't yet have an NSA server 🙂

I used to use installed versions of CCleaner and then one day I decided to try a portable version (my other name is Dan Dare). Since then I have stayed with portable versions. I tried various sources but the one I go for every time is by El Chupacabra. I never have a problem with it, no lags, no slow start up and well blocked.😀😀😀

Yes confirmed, Program become slow start when you block it from phone home through firewall, but fast start when you block their IP into the host file or simply didn't block it at all. This bad behaves only will trigger if the machine state connected to the internet.

CCleaner + Firewall block + Internet on = Slow start

CCleaner + Firewall block + Internet off = Fast start

CCleaner + Host IP block + Internet on = Fast start

CCleaner + Host IP block + Internet off = Fast start

CCleaner + Firewall block + Host IP block + Internet on = Slow start

CCleaner + Firewall block + Host IP block + Internet off = Fast start

In some case CCleaner still can reach their update server even when you set up manual update+not notify update plus blocking all CCleaner exe through firewall.

Well...therefore I put these entry lines into my host file.

I have no idea how much telemetry they injected to this (formerly great) program.

Why so much talks about ccleaner?

Its only single usage, in a round with similar apps like privazer and bleachbit, is to clean up fresh installs of windows, when the network is still off. Then the whole system is frozen with shadow defender. Why relying on these clean-up apps when it's so simple to reboot and get a fresh clean system?

Slow because it send UDP packets to ncc.avast.com to check the network connectivity.

in my case i just added

127.0.0.1 license.piriform.com

to my hosts files to prevent license verification. tried to use ActVer Activator but it gives me an error every time i tried to use it so i used another crack.

now i have ccleaner installer like this:

running 5.66.7716 Professional, updated from 5.64 using ActVer updater. Cracked using Thirdzky Universal Crack (to remove an old invalid serial key).

also using Pawel97 anti telemetry patch (version.dll file)

was all i need to use it fully.

if you do not block license.piriform.com access you will get this error:

check how, even when i used a crack and pawel97 patch, pro options are disabled.

when i block that domain, it changes to enabled :)

Nice. This and the FW block makes the free version fast again. How did you figure this out? I used TCPLogView and did not see these. I guess it doesn't do udp stuff. What do you recommend for finding stuff like this?

I have no idea, maybe you could try LiveTcpUdpWatch from Nirsoft. Oh, its should be instantly open the GUI, no need to block the domain nor IP through the hosts or firewall.

What is the difference of the "slim" version?

On 5/1/2020 at 10:31 PM, Abacaxi said:

The only difference between the two is that Slim doesn't include Yahoo Toolbar. Contrary to popular belief, it DOES include more than just English.

No offense @Abacaxi but you had forgot to mention the portable version. Which remain safe even today !

Despite the time (several years), I can confirm the fact : nothing has changed. That's why folks you won't find any malware (no toolbar, no crapware, no adware, etc).

PS   For the record, when I use the word malware it's also a reference which include this kinds of craps :

  • PUP = "Potentially Unwanted Programs"
  • PUA = "Potentially Unwanted Applications"

I would call these two as adware tho.

Take a look over the internet @T3rM1nat0Rr3 ! As we can see, a lot of people have met a security trouble.

Because they don't have any knowledge on this matter. Don't forget this fact because even today these people doesn't have a huge knowledge about the computer (hardware, software, etc, etc, etc).

At the beginning @zanderthunder I was thinking the same. But after a decade, I had learn sometimes it better to be very precise.

These kinds of adware have create too much trouble and it won't stop unless a miracle happened... How many people are aware of the existence of Unchecky ? It's just an example which describe the real world (the number is small).

That's why I had changed my opinion

BTW 0.0.0.0 makes it start even faster. Hosts and FW block for fast startup needed for untouched free CCleaner version to keep it from calling home.

Then you need to add the following sub domains to your hosts file to protect your license. The most common sub domain license.piriform.com is only connected via TCP to verify and validate the license, while both are connected via UDP to verify and validate the license. Register a new key with a network connection will be the same as without a network connection.

0.0.0.0 alpha-crap-stage.ff.avast.com

0.0.0.0 alpha-license-dealer-stage.ff.avast.com

In order to block Avast domains through the hosts file, Avast user need to disable the "self defense" feature. Even if the hosts file is set to read only, without disabling the "self defense" feature, Avast will automatically remove any Avast domains on the hosts file.

I don't need a license with the free untouched portable. The host entries used to redirect checking  network connectivity plus the firewall block is enough in my case to keep ccleaner from ever using the internet. Nothing changes my host file and I get notified if it does get changed.

Edit:

LiveTcpUdpWatch still shows connections being made, but no data being passed. I forgot to look there. I've gotten so used to using TCPLogView which was showing clean. 🤕 I assume these get blocked by the firewall no?

Still being used by ccleaner:

5.62. * * will connect to Avast telemetry and tracker. Just add the following sub domains.

0.0.0.0 ipm-provider.ff.avast.com

0.0.0.0 shepherd.ff.avast.com
0.0.0.0 ip-info.ff.avast.com
0.0.0.0 analytics.ff.avast.com

151.101.114.202 will connect to CCleaner home (https://www.ccleaner.com/auto). Just ignore it or add the IP to the firewall

The additional host entries got rid of everything except the last ip, which I added to the FW, but that did not seem to take care of it. Any idea why this and the telemetry/tracking events don't get blocked by the firewall?
