[Request] Advise for repair/mark the bad tracks/sectors

Hello,
I have a hard drive that I suspect has bad sectors. I formatted it (all data erased) and before reusing it, I want to check it.
I was interested in Minitool Partition Wizard 11.6 Disk Surface Test. This Surface test scans the disk, all sectors without errors are marked in green, bad sectors will be marked in red. For bad sectors use specific software to shield bad tracks
I found these 2 apps: HDD Low Level Format tool and DiskGenius Professional. There are certainly other tools.

What tool would you recommend to repair/mark the bad tracks/sectors ?

Regards

Sir, all the programs you said go well, as well as HDDScan or Macrorit Disk Scanner, to diagnose bad sectors.
To repair them is another story.
Repairing bad PHYSICAL sectors is impossible IMHO.
Repairing bad LOGICAL sectors is good a simple chkdsk.
HDSentinel has a section to repair, but in my case it failed.

HDD Regenerator 2011

I have used this in the past and it worked for me, some say is voodoo but it worked for me on 3 separate occasions, 3 different drives. The link above is for homepage, the tool is not free, but I have a copy if you want. I can post for you if you would like to try it. Lemme know! Regards

I'll give you another option, you can't have too many tools:)

SpinRite, coded in assembly language (170kb). These are full registered versions.
The program is about 15-20 years old, still current! take your time and read and visit steve's website. (url below)

Steve has started an update for full support with SSD, but one thing got in the way of this project and it was SQRL (Secure Quick Reliable Login)
You can read more about SpinRite on his website. and when you are, download SQRL, a must have!

Id suggest scanning with the drive manufacturers software tools as they are specifically designed for their drives.

If it is an old harddisk, better buy a new one, unless you see fixing bad sectors as a hobby.

Once in trouble there is good chance that an old harddisk stays in trouble....

Thank you all for your suggestions.
The drive in question is a WD passport 2TB.
In the past, I had scanned another WD disk with the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic manufacturer tool: first, it is very slow (> 24 hours) and ineffective.
I could buy a new disk but I'm curious, technically.
So, I'm not necessarily trying to fix bad sectors but rather to mark them. So that they are no longer used.

Among all the tools mentioned above, is there a quick tool that marks bad sectors?

As I wrote here above, there is nothing to backup. I refort the disk ;)

I'm looking for a quick tool that marks bad sectors?

Sir what do you mean for "mark bad sectors"?? it's a nonsense, windows take care all by itself

please open an elevated cmd and run chkdsk/r X:               (X is your drive partition)

go for a cup of coffee

done :)

I am a former engineer. In the 80s, I repaired HDDs (at that time a 300 MB was the size of a washing machine).

In short, we scanned the disk, and when it found a bad sector, we entered/marked it in the bad sectors table. So this bad sector was no longer used. Later this manipulation was done automatically.

Hi all,

I'm a little late ... I had to test, and it's very long.

First I tested chkdsk/r X:  This test lasted almost 24 hours ... for nothing. At the end, it return that "Windows scanned the file system without finding a problem."

I finally installed DiskGenius Professional and start Verify my disk ... after> 24H it found 5 bad tracks and 1 track almost bad. Then it ask for repair, I clicked on Repair. Indeed, the disk has been repaired. I have REinstalled all my backups in it (about 1.5 TB). Retested again this morning ... everything lokks jus fine :D

Regards
