ESET Freak
Guys I have an Acer Aspire 4920 that comes with Intel X3100 (which sucks, apparently), I wanna upgrade it and I know it's impossible to do it myself, can I upgrade my laptop via Acer Customer Support? I know there's an option do modify your Acer systems when you buy one, but I'm happy with this laptop and I just need to upgrade my GPU.
shought
Depends... It's probable that your laptop has an integrated GPU(integrated into the motherboard), if so there won't be any space for a replacement GPU...Edit: Just checked the specifications and yours comes with an integrated GPU, so you won't be able to upgrade it. (Unless you're willing to tear apart your MoBo and hope that you somehow manage to put it all together with another GPU on it :P)
mara-
Well, I also got one laptop which has integrated GPu, but I got PCI-E x16 slot on the left side of laptop. The thing is that I'm having difficulties finding graphic card for laptop where I live.Cheers ;)
Toshiro
Well, I also got one laptop which has integrated GPu, but I got PCI-E x16 slot on the left side of laptop. The thing is that I'm having difficulties finding graphic card for laptop where I live.Cheers ;)The big negative thing is that laptops are compact. Adding an GPU would really effect the airflow. Friend of mine managed to get an GPU in it.. (Which took him a whole while) And a almost a week later he noticed that his components almost fried. LeetPirate
best advice I can offer it to sell the laptop and buy a new one with better graphics. Those things are usually factory configured to match the power supply capabilities, airflow, and space inside the machine. Trying to add one could and most likely will end in disaster unless the machine is built for it from the start. Normally this is why you only see discrete gpu on 17 inch and above laptops. mara-
Well, since they made that slot available, I guess it's configured to work fine. I don't know if I can explain this good, but slot is outside, I just press one small button, get out some plastic and where that plastic was I put GPU. I was not planing to get some strong graphic card, just something that will be a little better then integrated card.Cheers ;)
shought
@mara-For you it is possible because the slot is on the outside, hence the card(being on the outside) won't (significantly) affect the inside airflow, but I guess you already knew that ;)If there's no slot on the outside then LeetPirate's story applies.
