mr47
I have been using ESET 12 with trial reset in my laptop but since the laptop is very old i am having performance issues. Can anyone suggest a lightweight alternative either free or with medicine?
mp68terr
What about an older version of eset, with an updated database? AFAIK, v5.0 does not need any medicine and there are updates databases around.
SolidSmoke
ESET is the lightest antivirus I know. I believe that anyone lighter will not be effective. For Windows 7 there is Microsoft Security Essentials but I don't know how it is currently with regard to protection. You can try ESET Endpoint 6.5.2132.6 it supports even Windows XP. mrkat
In my understanding, ESET! hands down. You can try to tweak ESET program settings. - You can exclude some trusted programs/folders from regular background scan - Advanced setup > disable program splash screen - Go to 'Tools > Scheduler': - uncheck 'automatic update after login' - startup scan after update I don't remember exact description of tasks under "Scheduler'. On my system, it helped to uncheck these processes. ESET' Disk/CPU utilization just after logging into the Windows were not spiking. Or you can try some cloud AV. Last I used, Panda cloud AV (now, renamed to Panda Free AV) has minimal footprint on the system resources. Webroot AV, too, is a good option. But, I was always skeptic of Webroot. It never flagged any file on my system during the time I used it. Best of all, in my opinion, is ESET AV. You may use Hitman Pro and Malwarebytes as your secondary scanners (non-real time).
