Google chrome automatic update not working

Hello guys, I have installed the latest version of chrome i.e. 80.0.3987.162 

I have downloaded the enterprise version so that auto update can work smoothly but after applying many fixes it is not working at all

I am always getting this error

An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 3: 0x80004002 -- system level)

Kindly provide any solution for it

1. Press Windows Key + R to open Run.
2. In the box, type “msconfig” and press Enter.
3. Click on the Services tab.
4. Find Google Update Services.
5. Check it if these were unchecked.
6. Click on Apply and OK.
7. Restart your PC.

• Run Google Update Manually

Chrome Update process, uses the "GoogleUpdate.exe" application to download and install Chrome updates. The "GoogleUpdate" application is located at one of the following locations on your disk:

 

C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe

C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe

 

If you find the "GoogleUpdate.exe" application, in one of the above locations, then:

1. Close Chrome browser.
2. Open Command Prompt.
3. In the command prompt navigate to the folder which the "GoogleUpdate.exe" application is located. e.g. If the "GoogleUpdate.exe" application, is located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Update" directory, type this command: cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Update
4. type the following command and press Enter: GoogleUpdate.exe /RegServer
5. Close Command Prompt window.
6. Open Google Chrome Settings > Help > About and check if Chrome is updated.

• Reinstall Chrome.

1. Locate Program & Features in the Control Panel.
2. Uninstall Google Chrome.
3. Delete the following folders (in bold letters) from your disk. Once done reinstall Google Chrome on your system.

C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome (if your own 32bit Windows)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome (if your own 64bit Windows)
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Update

• In case you're using an antivirus or firewall software, ensure Chrome is trusted or permitted by these programs. You can also try temporarily disabling your antivirus or firewall to check whether this determines the issue.
• Run a scan with malwarebytes, an anti-malware program that can find malicious software that the Chrome Cleanup Tool might not remove

Both the options are enabed

 

Run Google Update Manually

Tried, but no success, no response

cmd commands steps also done, but no success

 

Reinstall Chrome.

Tried several times

 

Disabled firewall and antivirus both, no success at all

 

Run a scan with malwarebytes

Done, 12 issues found and deleted them

Are you installing Chrome using the offline or the online setup ? and can you plz share a screenshot for the About section of Google Chrome ?

Still same error, literally fed up now, here is the required screenshot

Check if you have configured Chrome to always run as administrator. This is a known issue with Google Chrome auto-updating mechanism and can be avoided by simply running Google Chrome as a normal user not administrator.

Nope. I have also downloaded chrome enterprise bundle and followed all steps to insert necessary tempelates but no result

I think it is the fault of windows now

backup this folder(if you want to save cookies / logins / bookmarks)

now delete google folder

reboot

do you have another laptop/PC in which chrome updates are working as it should be?

then copy chrome installation files & %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\google from that working PC/laptop to on your PC/laptop

also delete old registry keys

Sir I don't have any another pc from which I can take the google folder, can you provide the same if possible

Also I don't have any other google program installed in my system

then try uninstall older version of Chrome completely (including remove registers and leftover folders) before installing the new one.

Is the browser workinG OK otherwise? If it is then I would not worry about it. I suspect something is blocking googleupdate.exe from connecting. 

Just check here at nsane and d/l Chrome update and install manually, not a big deal IMHO. Have a nice day!

Browser is working good, I dont know what is blocking googleupdate.exe

Previously I used to do the same, manually install the update.

Can you tell me how to identify what is blocking googleupdate.exe?

I am not an expert but IMHO something is amiss with your system? I would look into what MBAM did and why it did it, maybe then you will discover the root of this problem. Did MBAM delete googleupdate? If googleupdate is missing then chrome will generate the error you are receiving. I see where you stated that you tried to run googleupdate manually and as administrator, so I am assuming that googleupdate.exe still exists on your HDD!?1?

Yes googleupdate.exe exists in my system and is running as I can see in my task manager

It is gupdate and gupdatem processes which are stopped and I am not able to start them manually too

I never used MBAM, so can not tell

• Try Stopping and Restarting it from the services. (Type services.msc in Ru )
• Check the Scheduled Tasks for any error regarding googleupdate.exe. (Type taskschd.msc in Run)
• Navigate to the following,

  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\

1. Type regedit in Run
2. Navigate to the above path
3. Check if a file named Google Update is present

I use eset nod32 antivirus with windows firewall and i am not finding any setting which is blocking googleupdate.exe, however google chrome is already allowed through firewall, I have manually added googleupdate.exe too to allow through firewall.

In services.msc option both the processes gupdate.exe and gupdatem.exe are not starting manually too, they are stopped immediately after starting

In scheduled tasks I have checked both the above processes are started and triggered immediately

Google update is not present in the above path, checked it

Create a scheduled task for googleupdate.exe. If that doesn't work you will have to update Chrome manually since we cannot help from this point on. A technician needs to check your laptop. Maybe installing a fresh copy of windows is the only solution if you badly need that automatic update to work.
