<img src="http://www.nsanedown.com/images/logos/Winamp.png" class="logo" alt="Winamp" title="Winamp" />Winamp is an audio player that can handle audio CDs, MP3 audio files, and streaming audio broadcasts. It combines extensive functionality with an intuitive interface. Winamp features a playlist editor and a 10-band graphic equalizer with user-definable presets that can automatically load specific files. It also includes Windows Media Technology 4.0 input/output support and the industry-standard Fraunhofer MP3 decoder. This download no longer includes VIS/DSP plug-ins; you can download them separately.

Well I personally still hold on to my Winamp.. have a ton of reasons to.. ANYWAY.. anyone else notice the new Application Detector Plugin? It is stated that this plugin is used to report and detect the application number.. So that Winamp/AOL and other can appropriately provide users with content.. I could see how this would work but I have never before seen an instance where this would apply except between Linux and Windows installs.. and on like two or three occasions in the 10 years I have used it..

I disabled it, I don't like new things for which I probably have no need :P

Winamp might not be the best anymore(bloated, ad-supported) but it's feature set still kind of makes me stick to it.

Once I was used to hear internet radio with it. But I gave it up as I found there are better options available for internet radio. And importantly it used to hang my computer a lot when tried playin normal mp3 files.

I got too disgusted with Shoutcast.. both in trying to use the Radio Stations and in using the Broadcaster... I eventually just went with IceCast..w/EdCast and OddCast Tanscoding for AAC and MP3, except when using Traktor which transcodes into OGG...and all of this was to be for my own private use.. Then I discovered DNLA3.. and real-time transcoding... which works well until I go with video..and my system seems to crap out..Will work with PS3's and all devices such as your phone.. that sort of thing..Still working that out..mainly because I am trying to do both on the same system I think and low bandwidth upload speed that I have, Video and Live Cam feed I was using WebcamXP, but when you stream a source file it just does the one file and you have no real control over it.. I also have another server that uses PHP and Flash to create a media player right in your browser that streams your music and offers playlist management and all of the controls.....BUT I used to do the Shoutcast stations alot..

To me the greatest features of Winamp are the fact that it will play EVERYTHING.. which is rare when it comes to some players in the fact that you either get an error message or some sort of problem.. ( Like Windows Media Player in some cases ) It does both audio and video. Not too many players accomplish both as nicely or out of the box. The options given in Winamp mostly cover all of the main aspects of the program. You also can extend these options with the Essential Pack which is excellent to add..Which brings m to the next great option which is skins and Plug-ins. While other players TALK about plugins and skins.. and offer very little, Winamp seems to have a seemingly unending array of both. I mean you can do almost as much with Winamp as you can do with Firefox.. Everything from input to media management, DSP enhancement and Visualizations.. and more. The program will integrate with several sources available out there and will even integrate into the Touch screen system on your car.. ( should you have the option ). Visualizations for the program are also quite vast.. It seems to have lost speed in recent years but even still new visualization packages are still be made.. and with literally thousands of them to choose from.. you can find just about anything to suit your needs.. from any type of design cue.. an the program also allows for Line IN feeds for audio..One part I find as an Original part of Winamp that has always been there.. and should always represent it.. ( Yet its original design and coding presents some issues and needs to be revamped someway to keep its ability ). It truly 'out-does' most other players I have used, even Rips and Burns on its own.. ( and I also forgot to mention that it can be totally controlled through Samurize and Rainmeter and in other ways as well over a network ) .. The possibilities still remain endless for Winamp.. and I think that really it always was the better player of choice, and could be the player of 'tomorrow' as the term goes.. Long time running a one of the most configurable pieces of software I have ever pwned..Best choice for everyday use.. ( video used to be a bit to be desired though not sure about now )

All of this aside.. I still use Media Player Home Cinema, Finetune Player, DivX Player ( because I have only this one file...Grr ), Windows Media Player, Corel WinDVD 9, Hulu Desktop, Torq 1.5, Traktor Scratch Pro, and as I mentioned above.. servers, code, and my browser/DNLA3 device... I also use a couple of more programs that remaster and re-encode..List just goes on...

I still like Winamp. I don't use all of it's features though, I just use it for playing audio with a classic skin. No hit on resources either.
