Windows 10 Update Question?

Guys I work in a company, I have a windows 10 laptop given by the organization in which windows 10 Pro is installed.

My question is my windows is always up to date whenever I check windows update section.

No popup of update comes on my screen, I am curious how is it possible?

If it is, can the same be done on my personal laptop without disturbing me for updating the windows from time to time.

Looking forward to hearing back from experts.

When you go to the Window Update tab do you see this message at top left:  "*Some settings are managed by your organization".

That could be the reason.  Meaning that they have set the updates to be downloaded and applied without any user interaction.

You are right, I always see that. Can we apply the same settings in our personal laptop too, as it is so annoying to see the notification of restart after every few days and doing this is good for us or not

You can set the install time via Group policy to be at like 2AM and have it force restart after installing.

Group policy

Computer configuration > Administrative templates > Windows components > Windows Update

Group policy

Computer configuration > Administrative templates > Windows components > configure automatic updates

So, by doing this I won't be disturbed again and again by MS and my windows will be up to date without any user interference and notifications

Basically this should wake your PC and check for updates and if available download and install them and do a reboot.  However, waking up the PC and put it back to sleep mode depends on your power setting.

Windows Update will wake your PC and does its job.  Whether you can set it to put it back to sleep or shuts it down afterward I do not know.

Why don't you copy your Windows Update setting from your work PC to your personal PC?  That should solve the problem, if you have the same power setting as well.

I think I am not looking for this, I am looking for silent installation of updates without any interference

Trust me many of these updates require PC restart, so there will be some interference.  It is just matter of setting the install and reboot time, maybe let's say "on next boot".

Updates are often not of high quality. why allow automatic installation? I do not understand.

Just because I don't like to be disturbed in the middle of my work

link above, disable updates. manually enable and check for updates. The choice, of course, is yours.

There is an option so Windows Update will not disturb you with any notification for restart.  Apply that and set the apply time for "next reboot" via Group Policy.

Besides that nowadays I strongly recommend good backups before update or at least daily Restore points! :coolwink:
Best backup software is here:

@T3rM1nat0Rr3: Any clue why that displays as pic HWiNFO64??

@Israeli_Eagle Very strange. I've not a clue why that image should be showing.

@Matt Can you take a look at why a background image that doesn't belong has been added to the code in the post above this. For some unknown reason, this is in the code:

@DLord..My copy of 1909 X64 Pro doesn't have "configure automatic updates" in the path you quoted????

It is actually the "Windows Update" folder under the "Windows Components" path that includes all the configurations.  I will make the correction to the original post to be more precise.

is any of the methods above apply to wsus updates as well?

I've got a problem with updates for months and my admins aren't fixing it,

so I would love to block them (in order to avoid this undoing changes after every restart -

one solution I've found is to hibernate each time)
