Exact Audio Copy is a so called audio grabber for audio CDs using standard CD and DVD-ROM drives. The main differences between EAC and most other audio grabbers are: It is free (for non-commercial purposes), it works with a technology, which reads audio CDs almost perfectly. If there are any errors that can't be corrected, it will tell you on which time position the (possible) distortion occurred, so you could easily control it with e.g. the media player. With other audio grabbers you usually need to listen to every grabbed wave because they only do jitter correction. Scratched CDs read on CD-ROM drives often produce distortions. But listening to every extracted audio track is a waste of time. Exact Audio Copy conquer these problems by making use of several technologies like multi-reading with verify and AccurateRip.

wonders if people still use cds these days.. even computers and laptops dont come with drives anymore..

Bought spindles of cd/dvds yeeaaaars ago, still around because not using them anymore except for some backups (pics) that will likely never be used/checked anymore.

On the other hand these exact copy apps are still very handy to keep cds as digital files on hdds.

I remember when this used to be one of the most used programs on my PC, and the best of its kind, and great for a free program

Ah the days of watching the red leds in the display for errors a sit extracted tracks one at a time and then encoded them with LAME...and getting a report at the end

I was going through a spindle the other day and found an EAC offset testing CD....good times

I still have CD's/DVD spindles here, but cant tell you when i last burned anything
