here is his problem from his words:

"i shut my laptop off for a few hours and i booted it back up and it says that its missing the file "vgaoem.fon", so i copied the file fron the win xp home cd like it says to do from the microsoft website, i rebooted it and its sayin the same thing"

Hes running XP Home on a SATA drive in his laptop.

He has checked to make sure the file is still in the drive and it is.

Any help guys?

he says he cant reformat cause its a sata drive or something
((I thought only Full formats screwed up a sata drive... not quick ones))

I've never seen an SATA get screwed up by a format, and I've never seen anyone not be able to reformat an SATA properly.

There shouldn't be a reason why he can't reformat, and he could always slave his hard drive off of yours or someone else's computer to get any information he wants to save.

You can format SATA drives with no problems, your freind should know the facts before making comments.

You MAY need to obtain the drivers for the drive if you are wishing to reinstall the operating system. A repair installation may be the best option in this case.

When it asks you to load "raid/ scsi drivers", do that, then locate the SATA drivers you obtained earlier and continue as per usual.
