( Opinion ) Disney Wants to Reinforce Its ‘Piracy Intelligence’ Team

Disney entered the streaming market this week with its own video on demand platform. While there is plenty of interest in the new service, piracy remains a major concern. This is an area Disney's "piracy intelligence team" is keeping a close eye on, and they are currently looking for reinforcement.

sparrow1.jpg

This week Disney launched its new streaming platform which immediately gained millions of subscribers.

At the same time, there was plenty of interest in ‘unauthorized’ Disney+ releases on pirate sites, particularly in the exclusive Mandalorian series.

As one of the largest entertainment companies in the world, Disney is not new to piracy. It has dealt with this issue for decades. However, now that it operates its own exclusive platform there are other factors to take into account.

How do exclusive releases impact piracy rates, for example? And what is the effect on subscriber rates? How the interplay between legal and illegal supply affects revenues can be a complex and dynamic puzzle to solve.

What is clear is that Disney has the goal to minimize piracy. While it’s not publicized much, the company has a dedicated “piracy intelligence” team that continually keeps an eye on the piracy landscape.

Just recently, a new vacancy opened up, perhaps tied to the launch of Disney+. While there are few details available, Disney describes the team as follows:

“The Piracy Intelligence team at The Walt Disney Studios is based in Burbank and provides meaningful piracy insights to inform strategies that maximize revenue for the film and TV business and minimize the piracy impact.”

Disney is currently looking for a market research and data analyst, who will be responsible for supporting a variety of “piracy intelligence initiatives” and to “measure movie and TV viewing trends across digital media platforms.”

Unfortunately, there is not much information online about the goals and accomplishments of Disney’s anti-piracy team. TorrentFreak reached out to multiple contacts at the company, but thus far we have yet to receive a response.

It’s no secret, however, that major entertainment companies keep a close eye on the pirate landscape.

The enforcement side of this is often quite visible. This is also true for Disney. The company is a member of the global anti-piracy coalition ACE, which has filed several lawsuits and chases site owners and developers as well.

However, piracy “intelligence” can also be used as a valuable market signal. That aspect would be more in line with the “market research” and “data analyst” Disney is currently looking for.

This type of piracy use wouldn’t be unique. Previously we reported how Netflix uses piracy to figure out how much they can charge in a country, as well as what content they license. Similarly, Hulu uses piracy data to see what is popular among potential viewers.

Disney may use similar signals to determine how to best position Disney+ and what content it should offer to minimize piracy, and perhaps more importantly, maximize revenue.

While I have no intention of applying for the job, one free bit of advice is to make sure that Disney+ is available everywhere in the world. Right now, many people feel left out which makes pirated Disney+ exclusives quite tempting.

But I guess the intelligence team will notice that soon enough.

It really takes the sheer arrogance of a giant multinational company to believe that it is possible to release "stuff" in different time frames in different areas with no consequences?

The scene is still  trying to figure out how to fully crack there drm  , people are saying only way  to crack it above 720p  for 1080p  and  4k you  have to use a key only  nvidia shield has to download it and after you download it once  Disney  blacklist  the device's key so it cost them  $200 to download each time .  720p dl works  ok it's  the same drm  as the other sites . But any 1080p or 4k  Disney shows  after 1st Mandalorian ep  all the web-dl  has just been 720p   and 1080p and 4k are just recorded webrips.

DISNEY+ PIRATES BTFO: RIPPERS UNABLE TO CRACK HIGHER THAN 720P RIP! BASED DISNEY+!!!! Anonymous

https://old.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/dwndgi/only_720p_disney_webdls_after_the_mandalorian/

REDDITOR PIRATES ARE CRYING NOW AS SOURCES FROM PIRACY FORUMS HAVE SHOWN THAT DISNEY HAS MADE IT TOO HARD TO GET ANYTHING MORE THAN 720P RIPS!!!!

GUESS ITS TIME TO PAY IF YOU WANT TO USE THAT 4K TV....I MEAN 1080P TV, RIGHT GUISE? KEK!!!

WE CAN ONLY HOPE THAT BASED DISNEY+ TAKES AWAY 720P AS WELL, LEAVING DIRTY PIRATES WITH 480P SD STREAMS TO WATCH!

BASED DISNEY+ KICKING THE SHIT OUT OF FREELOADING SCUM!

YES!!!!!

INB4 PIRATES CLAIM THAT DISNEY+ IS JUST FOR KIDS AND KEKS ANYWAY!!!!

:lmao:

I doubt it will ever get fully cracked in 1080p  because Disney is using the same drm as the others use for 4k only for 1080p and 4k and they hardly ever  4k web-dl most 4k scene rls is blu-ray Disc. For years all the scene released was 720p HDTV  in TV shows unless it was Blu-Ray  like 6 mths latter ,if you wanted  better  you had to dl Apple  iTunes 1080p TV shows by private p2p groups.

1080p  TV shows only became the norm in the last few years unless you just watched Apple  iTunes WEB-DL. Once Amazon and Netflix  started releasing there own shows that didnt come on cable so  the scene  cracked there DRM  because it was the only way to get them  .   :tooth:

Well Piracy doesnt come cheap,

To get 4K boxes should be DRM level 1.0 .. And that needs certification (so most china boxes don't have it, Except the XIAOMI MIBOX that is

endorsed by Google as the low end of the certified Android TVS).. If they blacklist boxes based on their Hardware ID, that will surely hurt

The scene never  have mastered DRM level 1.0 4K WEB-DL,  on PCs  only Microsoft DRM can play  it  . Other than EDGE  and IE  its  only 720p unless you use and  addon that makes your browser think it's Edge . That's what Disney is using  for 1080p  on all devices . The scene  dont care if it  just  720p  or just SD PDTV  they will release what they can and thats the way it always been.

They still release PDTV today for some shows.

Sometimes  Apple  will  have them in HD on  iTunes but anymore it's all  streaming services  no one  bothers to buy TV shows from Apple  unless it's  Apple TV+ original series.

the only WEB-DL   witch scene calls web  was these

The.Mandalorian.S01E01.INTERNAL.HDR.2160p.WEB.H265-DEFLATE
The.Mandalorian.S01E01.INTERNAL.1080p.WEB.H264-DEFLATE

They are 1080p and 4k  of others out but there only WEBRips

The Mandalorian S01E02 1080p WEBRip DD5 1 x264-CUSTOM

The Mandalorian S01E02 2160p WEBRip x265 10bit HDR DD5 1-CUSTOM

this uses video from German scene webrips  so it has German overlays , audio and subs from The.Mandalorian.S01E02.iNTERNAL.720p.WEB.H264-AMRAP

WEBRIP:

  • Re-encoded --> Recorded/captured from web video stream
  • Sometimes Network logos & on-screen ads
  • Sometimes include abrupt transitions (due to commercial breaks)
  • Higher occurrence of artifacts, frame skips, audio sync, and picture
issues (due to captured source & commercial splits.)

WEB-DL/WEB:

  • Untouched --> Source file from online distribution website (remuxed/not re-encoded)
  • No logos or ads
  • No abrupt transitions (no commercial breaks like blu-ray)
  • Low to no occurrence of quality issues (similar in quality to blu-ray)

All the Disney WEB-DL out so far  on the internet

The.Mandalorian.S01E01.INTERNAL.HDR.2160p.WEB.H265-DEFLATE
The.Mandalorian.S01E01.INTERNAL.1080p.WEB.H264-DEFLATE

The.Mandalorian.S01E01.REPACK.iNTERNAL.720p.WEB.H264-AMRAP

____

In theory WEB and WEB-DL are direct untouched downloads from the provider and WEBRip is an encoding of a capture of the stream of a web provider. However some idiot that uploads all of the P2P releases renames all of the WEB-DL's to WEBRip on rarbg.to. The correct file name for the NTb file is Suits.S08E11.Rocky.8.1080p.NF.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.x264-NTb from when it was uploaded to BTN and HDB.

https://old.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/ajib5g/difference_between_webrip_vs_web/eevrno1/

2 sites i get my stuff from upload from RARBG  and BTN  some of the noobs on there think  they a difference in the Amazon  and Netflix rips  when there all web-dl .:hehe:
