Customize installer File

I downloaded a multi-language version of Adobe Master Suite. Its the Euro version so it has all kinds of languages packed with it. Any ideas how I could lighten up the installer package and get rid of the extra files? Ive noticed other program suits sometimes have the same thing (MS Office for instance).

I have Adobe CS4 Master Collection. Within the installer there is a "payloads" folder. Within this folder there are folders such as "AdobeAcrobat9-es_ES" (745 MB), "AdobeAcrobat9-fr_FR" (683 MB), etc. There is also a Setup.xml file within the "payloads" folder. I do not know if this would work, but could you just delete lines like this

<Payload folder="AdobeAcrobat9-es_ES">Adobe CS4</Payload>
<Payload folder="AdobeAcrobat9-fr_FR">Adobe CS4</Payload>

from the Setup.xml file so that you could also delete the corresponding folders from the installer?

Well you can try openin the file, exe or msi, by 7zip by right click > 7zip > open archive. And see if you can delete other language files from it. But I would not recommend it as installation would or may fail if it finds any file missin, even when it's another language file.

This Adobe document looks very interesting: Adobe Creative Suite 4 Enterprise - Manual Deployment Guide.

Deployment and installation options are configured by modifying or creating XML files that control the setup process.

You can control installation using the following Adobe enterprise deployment options:

• Component selection: Configure deployment files to install only specific Creative Suite 4 components. By

default, the complete suite and all the point products are installed.

In January, I used the information in this Neowin.net post to get rid of "garbage" related to Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop CS4 x64. For instance, I had absolutely no use for Adobe Drive CS4 x64, but the Adobe installer doesn't even show it during installation — you cannot uncheck it so you are forced to install it. But like the article says, in the <Dependencies> sections of the two mentioned XML files, just before "Adobe Drive CS4 x64" I changed

<ProductInfo type="required">
to
<ProductInfo visible="1" type="recommended">

This makes the Adobe CS4 installer show you Adobe Drive CS4 x64 so that you can uncheck it. I made a total of 21 changes to my AdobePhotoshop11-Core.proxy.xml file and 22 changes to my AdobePhotoshop11-Core_x64.proxy.xml file. I was (and still am) very happy that I didn't have to install Adobe Drive CS4 x64 and other stuff that I didn't need.

NOTE: If anyone does this, be very careful what you change and keep backup copies of your original XML files.

How much space did you save on the installation size.. My Adobe programs folder is 6.08 GB ( size on Disk ).. would be nice to save some space..especially since I cannot use anything that requires codecs as nobody out there cared to include them or installer for them when validating the trial installations..

EDIT: oh wait I have another 1.44 GB in Common Files, and another 266 MB on Application Data, with assorted other smaller folders throughout.

My motivation wasn't to reduce Adobe Master Collection CS4 installation space. I really didn't want Adobe Drive x64 forced on me. Drive CS4 is recommended, but Drive CS4 x64 is required and this didn't make any sense. If I remember correctly, Adobe Drive x64 was quite visible wanting to connect to Adobe Version Cue Servers. I didn't even install Adobe Version Cue CS4 so having Adobe Drive x64 forced on me really didn't make any sense.

As for my folder sizes (which were not my priority at all) with all updates applied as of today:

Program Files (x86)\Adobe: 8.06 GB

Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe: 1.23 GB

Program Files\Adobe: 483 MB

Program Files\Common Files\Adobe: 176 MB

So the grand total is about 9.9 GB (all updates applied).
