I would fix it by migrating away from M$ programs and downloading an alternative like PotPlayer or MPC-HC

please elaborate more detail on your issue (what kind of media file do you play, system information, etc.)

by right, installing a codec pack and/or updating your video drivers should eliminate the issue.

and btw, why would use Windows Media Player while you have much better alternatives such as VLC, K-Lite and so on?

About black screen issue on your video and since you are installing k-lite codec (but you didn't explain what version did you use), some answers might be found here:

https://codecguide.com/faq_playback_issues.htm#item48

https://codecguide.com/faq_playback_issues.htm#item59

https://codecguide.com/faq_display_issues.htm#item5

https://codecguide.com/faq_mpc.htm#item7

https://codecguide.com/faq_mpc.htm#item28

https://codecguide.com/faq_mpc.htm#item30

Also, please check your codec and filters settings under Configuration and Codec & Filter Management on Codec Tweak Tool.

If it still doesn't answer your question, post your thread on K-Lite's dedicated forum instead (register on that forum first before posting). Be sure to put all complete details you have.

http://codecs.forumotion.net/

And with regards to your reply and my original question, you didn't specify whether your video drivers are updated or not and also the details of the video file itself you didn't elaborate (file format, codec, etc.). The more you elaborate, the better the clarification.

When on windows, standalone players like mpc-hc, zoomplayer, etc. play whatever file.

No codec pack here (do a search for "DO NOT INSTALL CODEC PACKS!"), only using LAVFilters (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=156191 is one of the links).

Did not use it for years, but there was a tool called gspot to define the required codecs to play a media file (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/).

black screen with audio usually means an issue with hardware accelerated decoding. Try update graphics driver to latest.

Yep The Problem and And Graphic driver is already updated to latest

Check your audio output device settings, chances it might be changed. Plus, your audio driver is a question mark here, whether you have updated it or not.

And I don't see you post the same question at K-Lite's forum, which I was telling you to do so. They can able to pinpoint the problem on your video file and/or software, as long as you can give all details to them.

Also, please elaborate details on the video that you played, use MediaInfo for that.

Okay then make sure WMP uses LAV Filters

Q: Why are LAV Filters and ffdshow not getting used by WMP and Media Center on Windows 7/8/10?
A:

Windows comes bundled with decoders for several video formats, including H.264 and Xvid. These decoders from Microsoft are used by default by most DirectShow applications, including Windows Media Player and Media Center.

If you prefer using LAV Video decoder, ffdshow, or some other third party decoder, then you can use Codec Tweak Tool to adjust the preferred decoder settings in Windows 7/8/10. This tool is included with the K-Lite Codec Pack and is also available as a standalone application.

The K-Lite Codec Pack already automatically adjusts the preferred codecs settings for the most common video formats. It uses specials settings to make Windows select the decoder based on the filter merit. This is similar to how things work on older Windows versions.

However, the preferred decoder settings only have effect when WMP uses DirectShow for playback. In many cases it actually uses a different type of codec from Microsoft, namely Media Foundation. It does that for example for AVI, MP4, M4V, MOV, M2TS, and WMV files. On Windows 10 also for MKV files.

There are several ways to make WMP use DirectShow instead of Media Foundation:

  • Rename your file. Give it a file extension for which Media Foundation isn't used.
For example .video instead of .mkv
    Or .mpv4 instead of .mp4
  • Disable Media Foundation with the Codec Tweak Tool. This is not recommended, because some application and games require Media Foundation for video playback. Unlike WMP, those are not capable of falling back to using DirectShow.
  • Disable decoders from Microsoft with the Codec Tweak Tool. Also not recommended.

Try changing hardware decoder to use on LAV Video setting. If DXVA2 Native doesn't work than try DXVA2 Copy-back.
