I really don't know Mandriva is all blue and white looks nice.. seem to support more desktops.. I had the choice between Gnome or KDE, and I chose Gnome because there are quite a few styles that look really nice for it available and I would have to have Conky.. some extra feature in Mandriva but all of them have to be paid for.. which I don't really like.. but hey..

To me at first glance Mandriva looked and felt more like a normal OS..But its been a while since I booted Ubuntu.. really I think that it could be about the same and difference could come from the idea when compiling the OS and its purpose..

I would need to do some more booting in VB to really make a decision.. I did like Mandriva however.. what killed me about Ubuntu.. and this could be purely my noobishness with Linux.. but it had updates and extensibility.. then all of these upgrade packages.. and I could never really figure out what I was needing to do there.. Basic functionality seemed fine.. but then when it came to getting into things like what I can do with what I know on Windows now... I was at a loss... Like extending the ability to play a DVD, or music disk.. ( MP3's were just fine but.. ) Then editing and servers... Areas where you really have to know how to compile a server.. it seemed to be more broken down. Like when I wanted to do something I had to compile it.. from what be the equivalent of creating a program from source on Windows.. at which point .. I have limited knowledge in doing it in either place..

Well Windows is a GUI based system and Linux is more a powerful terminal type. If you open the terminal and know the commands, you can do just anything with ease.

I read somewhere that Ubuntu has about 50% of market of Linux.

I do like KDE interface. But I'll download/install Ubuntu then convert it into KDE, rather thn downloading Kubuntu. :P

Also Ubuntu's default fonts suck. :P

The one you are using now is Gnome. Somehow I didn't like it. But I think it would look quite good in v10.x.

I wonder if Windows 8 is really gonna be Cloud based. If so I may have no option but to switch to Ubuntu or some other linux. BTW there's a tool called Wine that can make you exe installer convert and make it work on Ubuntu.
