In our homeland 20 years ago, we had magazine with CD-ROM which was published each week, promoting useful programs and news. After 5 years, the magazine has been transformed into a forum site with news, articles and promotions of new and old programs. In order to be maintained, they switched to a paid option - VIP users had a premium account that allowed them to see all the sections, not only partial. Without a premium, you can read IT news, read program descriptions and read some sections of the forum but you can not read articles, downloading links can not be downloaded or visible and a unique extra - they haven't access to old versions of programs, which does not matter to us. To this day, the site evolves without any problems.

Example (Free Account):
- Read news
- Articles are only visible on half the material for each
- Reads some sections of the forums without two tabs
- Can not download free programs from an official site (no reference and server access)

Example (Paid Account):
- Access to an entire article
- Access to the entire forum
- Access to reference links of programs and servers with the old versions released.

Idea: If the fate of this forum is questionable and depends on finance, think of this alternative. Publishing conditions are ruled by administrators. At least you can set some VIP users with Premium gift and guests can not be able to read full content, only partial. :doctor:

so someone wants to convert this site to a paid site..

so what next, a subscription model? wait

most of the news are taken from other sites..

lots of software are free..

then you should also pay your sources for using their articles..

In my opinion, leave this forum as it was and the donation problem just returned to the members of this forum, if they love this forum because it provides benefits to them, there is no harm in giving them donations to help improve the performance of this forum forever.

If a forum is initially free and then has to be paid, there are still other websites that provide the full version software for free, which is an example of a website that I have ... he ... he ...

"Donation", if it has been made for personal gain, is not a donation but it is a bribe, made for the sake of personal gain...

This is precisely the case here. A person wants to buy popularity and calls it a donation.

Reminds me of an old saying, "neki kar dariya mein daal" (Do good and cast into the river!)

Meaning: If you confer a favour, do not boast (Do a kindness and forget it.)

Wise words to live with.

What is stated in the first post will be disastrous for the site.

There are many competing sites and most of the members are members of multiple sites.

If the subscription model is followed a lot of members will leave the site and that will make the site lot more unpopular. Then as a result the paid members will also start to leave ultimately resulting in ..............

If the administrators need more money to keep the site running properly then they can set up a software shop in this site. It will be very handy for the members as they will not have to go anywhere else if they need to buy a software.

Sorry but this will never happen at nsane forums we will be always an open forums for everyone. This happening because of too many reasons. First one is the amazing staff who have volunteered to serve in here, and the second thing is to all who have volunteered to donate. Finally, the people who have been helping others voluntarily with their knowledge free of charge. As along as we are having those amazing people we don't need to have a perineum account.
