irefay
To enable non-compadable extentions add to about:config:If you are running an alpha or beta you have to append an a or b so: extensions.checkCompatibility.3.7a or extensions.checkCompatibility.3.6bor just extensions.checkCompatibility.3.6 when final comes out. Add as false.
SacredCultivator
Interesting, didn't know you had to add something AFTER "extensions.checkCompatibility", as I have that already.
HX1
Okay... I just recreated your problem.. and it doesn't seem to be the 6.7 version of the extension... It installed alone without the program install rendered no errors and all goes well.. Error Console shows no problems..I watched my Error Console scroll on by for about a minute, after loading my account.. on and on it went..Looked as though it had finished on the page so I went and browsed a little.. Loaded my calendar.. new tabs .. did it all.. played around.. nothing .. No problems at all.. Next I close my browser.. and then installed the program into my computer.. I used no integration into IE, only have FF checked and am not using advanced integration...This time as I tried to click on a drop down.. CRASH.. this was while the Error Console was scrolling line after line of warning from the code used to write the applications..Before my GTalk box loaded.. and before My Google Documents loaded.. the small window.. Next I restarted FF from the crash window.. and went back to GMail. This time I waited for all the stuff going on n the Error Console to stop.. Then I did the same thing I did when I only had the extension installed...This bug will exist between IDM and Google.. NOT Firefox.. This is a bug.. where you have Code written by Google initiating in your browser.. and you have code loaded or running in your browser from the extension which allows the program to interact with the browser.. when these codes meet up at the wrong time during initiation.. CRASH.. open code or issues which mix to make the Host application.. Firefox.. unstable.. In this effect ( theory ) I state that it isn't Firefox code which would be causing the problem.. but open code mix between the other two 'clients' if I can call it that.. UNLESS.. this is somehow related to something else.. Like a buffer underrun issue or something..SOOO.. I say you have a few options.. wait until all of the code from GMail loads before you even breathe.. Kill the extension... Or contact both companies to notify them of the issue..Both of which will probably deny that they are causing the problem...because their programs did not crash..or fault..Me.. Personally I would have just killed the extension in this version and found a working resolution..or in other words another DM.
Bizarre™
@heath28m:Just so you know, I don't use any plug-ins to re-enable incompatible ones. I manually edit their .xpi installer and install them offline. After editing and installing them, they are usually accepted by the new version of Firefox, however they might not function correctly. This is when and where authors need to update the code of their plug-ins.
HX1
Yeah me too...Thats exactly what I was getting at .. long way about it but .. yeah... I am always pulling out status bar icons and stuff.. like my AutoHide StatusBar.. will absolutely refuse to hide the icon.. so I rip it out..same thing for Fasterfox.. I kind of have a rule though..if I find myself scanning through the code.. trying to get it to work .. its gone.. I do definitely believe in backing up all of my extensions and preferences..FEBE and OPIE all the way.. when I use these it actually exports my mods too.. as is..The reason I use MrTech Tool Kit .. is so that I can do them quickly..usually like when installing the Beta or Minefield.. ( which I need to get rid of BTW ).. I just make them all compatible with the press of a button.. If I have issues then I go from there.. This particular builds and versions this time around I so far with my extensions have been quite lucky..usually I have several that create a problem..I had real issues when upgrading from 2 to 3 and from 3 to 3.5. But it worked out..
SacredCultivator
@heath28m: That's strange... As I mentioned... IDM/Gmail works fine for 3.5.5 and below, but it's the 3.6 brancht hat the things go askew... Which is why I sorta pinpointed it at FF... But I could be wrong somewhere... HX1
@heath28m: That's strange... As I mentioned... IDM/Gmail works fine for 3.5.5 and below, but it's the 3.6 brancht hat the things go askew... Which is why I sorta pinpointed it at FF... But I could be wrong somewhere...Well today right here in the site I read that one of the new features for the new Beta version is that it can run simultaneous scripts asynchronously..and that it was either half or thousands of extensions have had to updated.. so as a new feature the browser itself is doing something that it did not before...Therefore the GMail.. and IDM will have to change their code to be able to work in this manner.. ( and technically this may just be as simple as better practice in writing code( I know what I want to say right here.. but I have no words for how to properly say it. ) this may not happen until browser is finalized..Things like this your never wrong because each step either eliminates.. or takes a step farther... but watching the characteristics of the problem and simple pieces of information that have been read thus far.. it kind of what I would be looking to..Completely right about something changing in Firefox.. bit to keep the functionality in the browser itself.. you change the point of incompatibility within the extensions..and sites/applications..If each thing was a string of code and you had a lane or track that each one ran in side by side..and your code structure created these elements.. Then it could be said that either someones leaving their lane open.. and someones else code can jump track..or both can jump track because their lanes/tracks are broken..or incomplete in some way.. though in writing code this can be easier said than done as some of these elements won't work as designed without approaching it from another angle all together..DEPENDING on the actual cause.. SacredCultivator
Thanks for looking into it for me. Seems I was right in one way or another though =PSo once this goes final, I hope these issues get resolved.
