Adguard is the world's most advanced Internet filter and ad blocker. Adguard provides you with a reliable and manageable protection that immediately and without your participation filters the loading web pages. Adguard removes all the annoying ads, blocks loading of dangerous websites, and will not allow anyone to track your activities on the Internet. Common ad blockers are implemented as browser extensions, while Adguard works on a network level and is not subject to all limitations which a browser impose on its extensions. Adguard features Blocking of ad and tracking requests, Cosmetic processing of the page, Website HTML code filtering, Support for all browsers, Protection from malicious ads, Ad filtering in applications like Skype and uTorrent and a lot more.

My question comes from this thread: Google to restrict modern ad blocking Chrome extensions to enterprise users

Q: Is this software, AdGuard, a replacement for or even better than an Ad Blocker in a browser? [Chrome is my example]

yes it is, it can work on non-browser app like spotify too. and it has a nice pop-up blocking and anti-adblock remover filter, so you can just ignore most of those website asking you to turn off your adblocker.

What do you guys think of this Reddit comment about Adguard?

"You need to be a browser extension to be able to inspect requests and to block them, the way that uBlock Origin does it. That is why the developer is annoyed by these changes.

You need to be a browser extension because you basically need to be a browser. Unless AdGuard desktop is a browser that relays completed web pages back to your browser or a service that does the same (like what Puffin does), it can never be as powerful as what an extension in a browser can do, because web pages rely on DOM, Javascript, storage APIs, all the stuff that proxies and DNS based solutions don't do."

It's an uneducated statement — in reality . . . . AdGuard the program blocks far more than any other ad. blocking extension (including the AdGuard browser add-on, itself.)

Fun Fact:—

The V7 blocks more than even the V6.

Just tested this build and realized that the Developers have released a final version without fixing the failure of AdGuard's IP-blocking of applications (this was a known issue which bugged the Nightlies and the Betas throughout the V7.) RL8WwPy.gif RL8WwPy.gif

Also, on both my copies — cosmetic filtering works only the first time but fails subsequently . . . . after a refresh/reload of the page. RL8WwPy.gif

Edit:—

The failure of cosmetic filtering is quite random.

Please do search the forums before posting portables, preactivated and repacks.

All those should be posted into the main thread created for the new version.

Strange. Adguard v7 failed to update filters on my computer, shown error results. Haven't any problems with version 6. App is allowed in firewall. Still able to add new filters. It just won't update. Thought?

I have the very same problem with Adguard v7, no matter what version or fixes. I have mostly tried knowlede and radixx11 version relevant .dll. Also tried elchupacabra rp and some others.  All filters say ERROR when updating them. I have tried both Betas, the Release, as well as several nightlies.

I am blocking the following Hosts with Acrylic DNS proxy:  api.adguard.com
                                                                                                       api-b.adguard.com
                                                                                                       ip.api.rec.adguard.com

I have also tried with and without Firewall IP blocks of these IPs : 194.177.22.245
                                                                                                                    176.103.133.92
                                                                                                                    104.20.31.130

I just cannot get the filters to update no matter what. I have resorted to downgrading to latest Adguard v6 repack by theBig. Repack by theBig is the only one that allows me to update filters. I am waiting and hoping for a Adguard v7 repack by theBig. I may experiment with some of these new releases and repacks, but it seems futile.

This is what is blocking the filters updates > "api.adguard.com"

Only use the patched dll, no need hosts block and then go to adguard options and disable "silent automatic updates"

Thanks, Matsuda! That is what I did wrong.
After your tip, I completely uninstalled all traces of Adguard v6. After reboot, I removed all hosts block from Acrylic and removed all Firewall IP blocks. I then freshly installed Adguard 7.0.2638.6551 and replaced dll with knowledge and RadiXX11 magnificent patched dll. It is now 100% working great! No errors or bugs! I even imported my settings and filters. I am really loving the new Adguard 7 now, especially the dark theme! Thanks for your help.

Wow.. Thanks, man. It is working now. Also thanks to @RadiXX11 and @knowledge for the fix.

I agree that Adguard is one of the useful software and worth buying by anyone who can afford it.

After patching go to Settings > Reset settings to defaults

And add the filters you want in Settings > Ad Blocker > Add Filter
