Patrick
Intel and AMD have announced a comprehensive agreement to end all outstanding legal disputes between the two chipmakers. The disputes revolved around antitrust litigation and patent cross licensing.Under the agreement, AMD and Intel obtain patent rights through a new 5-year cross license agreement and agree to give up any claims of breach stemming from previous agreements. Intel has agreed to pay AMD $1.25 billion and to abide by a set of business practice provisions, such as offering vendors preferential treatment if chose not to use AMD processors. AMD agreed to drop all pending litigation against Intel, including two cases in Japan and a case in the US District Court of Delaware. AMD will also drop all regulatory complaints worldwide. Source-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-The damage has beed done Intel, you need to give AMD more than that :frusty:. That's probably just 5% of what they got from putting AMD in a corner in the Pentium days. I'm getting curious what AMD will do with the money. (hardware inprovements..etc.)
Patrick
They'll probably invest in Llano Fusion 32nm. They really need money on the CPU section of AMD.
HX1
It could be put into several different areas.. research, marketing, advertising... who knows.. Seems like a lot of money.. and invested correctly it may go farther than it may in other areas.. It would probably come from an evaluation of areas which could be targeted to help the company.. Long term investments such as research can be strength and stability while dumping it into a trend.. or even marketing and advertisement.. can be a quick squandering without any real return on profits...a gamble.. Debt can be a good area to target as well.. when it comes to non-revolving debt.. which has to be eliminated by restructuring..but yeah basic thoughts..There will always be more to tomorrow than just tomorrow..in tomorrow you will have yesterday and next year...It can a decision that will take more of a logistical approach..Depending on the % of weight the amount may carry in the numbers..
