How to fix errors when installing Microsoft Edge Insider builds

You may encounter errors if you try to download and install any Edge Insider builds on other platforms. Here’s what you can do to fix errors when installing Edge Insider builds:

  1. Operating system: Microsoft Edge Insider builds are currently only available on Windows 10 (64-bit).
  2. Connection settings: Parental controls, antivirus, and/or firewall settings might be blocking your Edge Insider build installation or update.
  3. VPN settings: Changing your VPN connection settings may help avoid download errors
  4. Trusted sites: Add “officeapps.live.com” to your browser’s list of trusted sites.
  5. Try downloading again. Uninstall your Microsoft Edge Insider build and try downloading again.
  6. Restart your computer. If there’s still a problem, uninstall your Microsoft Edge Insider build and try downloading again.

Applies to All Windows 10 Versions

This week, Microsoft released the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser in three channels; Microsoft Edge Beta (coming soon), Dev, and Canary. All three versions of Microsoft Edge Insider are essentially the same with the only differences being in the update schedule and browser stability. Microsoft Edge Insider Beta is not yet available for download, but will get updates every 6 weeks, Edge Insider Dev will get updates weekly, and Edge Insider Canary will get updates on a daily basis. The good news is that anyone can download and test out Microsoft Edge Dev and Canary channels right now.

No news yet on when these Microsoft Edge channels will be available on other platforms, but I would love to see these Microsoft Edge Insider channels make it to Android and iOS soon. If you are having issues downloading the Microsoft Edge Insider channels, there’s ways you can check what’s wrong.

Here’s what you have to check if you experience errors with either Microsoft Edge Insider build installations or updates:

  1. Operating system. Microsoft Edge Insider builds are currently only available on Windows 10 (64-bit). Currently, other versions of Windows and other platforms are not yet supported. At the time of this writing, there is a way to install the new Microsoft Edge browsers on Windows 7.
  2. Connection settings. Parental controls, antivirus, and/or firewall settings might be blocking your Microsoft Edge Insider installation or update.
  3. Trusted sites. If you’re using a browser other than Edge, add officeapps.live.com to your browser’s list of trusted sites.
  4. Try downloading again. Uninstall your Microsoft Edge Insider build and try downloading again.
  5. Restart your computer. If there’s still a problem, uninstall your Microsoft Edge Insider build and try downloading again.

Other errors you might encounter may occur when using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). For example, if you experience “Error 403” when attempting to install Microsoft Edge Insider builds, you might need to change how you connect to your network. After changing your VPN connection, try to download and reinstall your preferred Edge Insider build.

Edge Insider builds function similarly to Google Chrome, but Microsoft removed several features to make the new Edge browser unique. There has never been a better reason to uninstall Chrome and go with Edge until now. If you haven’t already, download Microsoft Edge Insider Dev or Canary builds today.
