An historical query...

I may have asked about this quite some time ago & forgotten...or not - so here goes.

Quite some time back (remember, I'm an old guy !!) there was a war*z forum literally & exactly named theForum.

IIRC it ran on the XenForo platform and one of the Admins had the nick Ninecat.

It was a great place & I visited it often - until there came a time of illness for me & I was offline for quite a while.

Upon my return to online status - it had vanished & even its backup board was gone.

So, I'm wondering if any other oldtimers here may remember that place & maybe even know what happened to it to make it vanish after being around for a bunch of years ??

Sadly I don't even have the URL for it anymore to try & look for it via the Wayback Machine.

Thanks.

I am sorry but this is what happened...

Sounds familiar, right?
It seems this is a common pattern on many site/forum/bbs/server/community that caused its downhill.
I watch the pattern everyday on some forums that just showed the same symptoms.
I can just hope they won't go further this road too.
Another great community that's gone now. Sad.

People have move on.
You can just hope to meet them again on other boards (forum) or platform.

Forums need to reinvented each day otherwise they are going to slowly disappear. As someone say before, the customers (members) are not  the most important source, but the only most important source.

Long life to, nsane forums!

I use to have sites where I could get any software I wanted, much of it made available by the government and universities.  Those sites started disappearing in 1986 when we opened the net up to everyone.  But it was really nice back then.  I could go online, download literally thousands of programs or I could just sign up and they would send them to me on floppy disk, cases full of floppy disks, and it didn't cost me a penny.  My friends and I use to sit around for hours going thru all the disks in the boxes to see what programs we could use.  The mailman hated us, those boxes were heavy.  Sometimes the good old days really were the good old days.

Thanks for the great & thoughtful replies folks !!

I have seen many such places come & go, some vanished because of hosting problems, some due to disinterest of the operators, but most (IMO) simply because of hateful moderation that drove the users away.

The ones which seem to stick around the longest always seem to have moderators who treat the users well and who don't act like dictators.

nIGHT, what you shared here looks like it may be related in name only - but then again I wasn't around when it ended & that was some time ago - lots more than a year.

I wish I could remember more details & some nicks of the major folks who posted there.

The only other thing which comes to mind was that theForum I refer to always used a black & blue theme - as such, folks often referred to it as the 'old black & blue'.

Maybe someday I'll be able to find the old URL of that place & check for it at wayback - then I'd be able to show better what it is I'm asking about.

Again - thanks folks !!

Wow.

So absolutely & completely delighted to have asked here.

I'll say only thanks to those who have helped me to clear up this mystery - and that now I know what to do.
