Microsoft Technical Fellow and HoloLens inventor Alex Kipman just posted this slick, sci-fi teaser trailer on his personal YouTube page, along with flashing text for "Barcelona" and the date, February 24, 2019. The date refers to Microsoft's Mobile World Congress 2019 (MWC) press event.

Microsoft announced its involvement a few weeks back, with CEO Satya Nadella expected to attend alongside Kipman. MWC typically revolves around phones, but in recent years, it has come to incorporate laptops and tablets as well, as computing generally becomes more mobile. Microsoft isn't expected to reveal anything phone or tablet-related, however, and certainly not the widely-rumoured "Surface Andromeda" folding phone. Instead, it looks as though it could be HoloLens 2 on the docket.

HoloLens has enjoyed a charmed life as an enterprise gadget, landing Microsoft a massive $480 million dollar contract with the U.S. army for its potential as an augmented head-mounted display in military and engineering scenarios. The contract could also balloon to 100,000 devices in the future too, no doubt incorporating HoloLens 2 and all of the expected improvements along with it.

In a recent Ask Dan video, our executive editor Daniel Rubino noted that HoloLens 2 could be using a Snapdragon processor, ditching Intel's now-discontinued Atom line for improved battery life and potential LTE options.

Either way, it won't be long before we find out for ourselves what Alex Kipman is teasing, with MWC 2019 just around the corner on February 24, 2019.
