(How are those like that?) The VirusTotal Community uses a reputation score to gauge the usefulness and accuracy of user-generated comments and votes. Whenever a user votes one of your file or URL comments as useful, you receive 10 reputation points. On the other hand, if one of your comments is voted as not useful, you lose 10 reputation points. The single way to improve your reputation score is to make interesting and helpful file and URL comments.

But on a similar case, reddit also never making explanations about their voting algorithm. A post on reddit could gain thousands of upvotes but the OP would never gained all those "karma" to their name. Check virustotal FAQs or something like that and see if you can get any info about it. Administrator DKT27 Posted December 24, 2018 Administrator Share Posted December 24, 2018 Some posts edited. Quote Members are asked to ensure their interactions (posts, PM's, shouts and status updates) are consistent with 'normal writing' in the English language. Posts should be free from excessive emoticons or images. Users additionally should avoid posting text in full capital letters, extra large or very small text and excessive punctuation in topics or posts. Guidelines. I request everyone to be respectful and helpful as this is what our community made of. If someone has asked a question, which is a good question I feel, then one deserves an answer unless one is satisfied. @TrojanK: To answer your original question, it seems that some users have more power of points behind them. Meaning, lets say as I'm an admin here, I can have a power where if I like a post, instead of that post getting just one like, as I'm an admin, that post will get 10 likes, all from me. Similarly, if I disliked something, instead of it getting one dislikes, it will get 10 dislikes instead. It seems that they have implemented something like that, where some individual users have more power on vote than others. Let me take this even further. How to know if this file is safe, how to decide if no one has rated it. Look at the names given to the file by the AVs. What's the two most common names found on that list. It's trojan generic and keygen. It can be said that if trojan generic and keygen are written on files, in most cases, it's false positive and safe to use it.
