Bizarre™
The KMPlayer is all in one media player covering various formats. It has an extra feature to play Incomplete/Damaged AVI file, Locked Media Files while downloading or sharing, Compressed Audio Album (zip, rar) and so on. It handles a wide range of subtitles and allows you to capture audio, video, and screenshots in many ways. The player provides both internal and external filters with a fully controlled environment without grappling with DirectShow merit system. The player can set multifarious audio and video effects, control playback speed and octave, select parts of a video as favorites, do a powerful A-B repeat, remap the keys of remote interface for HTPC including overlay screen controls, change a skin dynamically depending on a media type playing, and many more. It is completely customizable thanks to a wide selection of skins and color schemes.Download
Dooohhh
Sweet to see this player getting updated!I've tried a LOT of different players (BS. Player, VLC, Media Player Classic Home Cinema to name a few), but ONLY KMPlayer will play 720p movies smooth on my computer, which is not the fastest one on earth :) So if you have any problems playing moviefiles, you should try this player, i can highly recommend it! Dooohhh
@Dooohhh:I can play 1080p videos with MPC-HC :)I just need to change some settings in:Options > Internal / External Filtersheh sure you can :) But to be honest i don't know much about how to properly set up the settings of a mediaplayer. But KMPlayer (and SMPlayer (which have started to crash (aaaargh)) by the way.) have always worked perfectly out-of-the-box, only by using their setup wizard.Maybe you could share some info about how to set up your mediaplayer? In an other topic ofcourse :)

harpua
I use MPC-HC to watch everything including 1080p blueray rips with awesome quality on my laptop (with external monitor). I use it in conjunction with Shark007'swin7 codecs (he has them for vista too) which includes everything one needs to play everything, plus a truly great "settings app" that makes it a lot easier to control the filters and splitters one wants MPC-HC to use for particular file types. I use "GraphStudio" (free app) to quickly check which filters each file type is using and tweak them with Sharks settings app and MPC-HC until I get it using the specific filters and splitters that work best for each file type (which are not necessarily those that come with MPC-HC or native W7 codecs. With graphstudio, one just drags and drops the media file one is interested in checking into the app and the app presents a visual diagram (in order too) of the filters your system is currently using to decode it. I'm also using CoreAVC Pro (which is a paid filter, but of course there is a keygen) for h264 decoding. Sharks settings app controls CoreAVC quite nicely. CoreAVC Pro, ffd show's video decoder, and MPC-HC all can do DXVA decoding but unfortunately, no matter which filter or player I use, I just can't get my laptop to play those files smoothly using DXVA. It's clearly a hardware issue with my graphics adapter even though it is supposed to support DXVA. I think its likely because it only has 128 mb of dedicated video ram. But fortunately everything plays great using the ordinary CPU decoding so its not a huge issue. (The next laptop I get is going to have the best video adapter I can get though.) HATE9X
i use the MPC-HC decoder in KMPlayer.. needed some fiddling to get the DXVA working, the source transform filter had to be disabled, but it rox now.. only few % cpu use (obviously).. harpua
I'll have to wait till I get my next machine before I can enjoy DXVA. Looking forward to it, probably next year.
HATE9X
I'll have to wait till I get my next machine before I can enjoy DXVA. Looking forward to it, probably next year.it's not really a big deal, i mean, many effects can't be applied w/o transform filter.. that needs to be disabled for DXVA..so if ur cpu runs everything well u should be happy.. :dance2: tbh, i only switched to it.. after noticing two 1080p m2ts files wouldn't seek as fast.. lolmy 720p rips that i regularly acquire played just fine on cpu, but i just decided to leave it on, in case i wanted to do some cpu heavy stuff while watching movies.. generally i don't tho. :frusty:420th Post! Let me offer everyone a rip off this bong.. :bong: :ganja:
harpua
Getting back on topic, I decided to try this KMPlayer and I'm pretty impressed with it so far. It's a direct show player like MPC-HC but the interface seems a bit slicker and the controls more intuitive. It's easier and clearer to control which codecs, filters, splitters, etc., get used for specific file types. It gets along with Shark's win7 codecs and CoreAVC Pro just as well as MPC does. So I've decided to use it as my default video player for a while and see if my initial favorable impression holds up. It's great to have two excellent free direct show players available. HATE9X
yeah, altho i like it because it makes codec packs pretty much useless.. it plays h/x264, divx, xvid, mpeg, mpeg2, wmv, flv files.. and a lot more w/o codecs, i got bored of updating my codec pack once in a while..& tbh, just a few mins ago i decided to get rid of that MPC-HC decoder too, 'cos I started missing my resize/postprocessing on 264 vids, so i thought screw DXVA..and now that I checked, even the 1080p files that seeked slow play just fine on cpu power and i realized the magical change i made.. just changed the splitter.. :frusty: anyhow, i recall coreavc didn't use any less cpu for me altho it should since it's multithreaded & i have a dualcore (hopefully soon triple/quad).. any comments on that?anyway, yeah, kmplayer is great.. and after selling the source of the proggie, this korean dev started progging another player, PotPlayer.. unfortunately it's Korean only, I've found a few translations, but they were pretty poor..it even includes DXVA, but supposedly that's 'cos it has lots of code stolen from MPC-HC.. like those countries give a shit about copyrights..with that said. i like it. (KMP) hah, noticed i drifted off
harpua
Actually, I've already gone back to MPC-HC because KMP wouldn't work well using the EVR renderer which is supposed to be better on Win 7 (and Vista) systems. It would freeze up rather frequently with the EVR renderer selected. I googled this problem and found that many users have complained about this problem for some time but nothing has been done to fix it. So I'm back to MPC-HC as my default player. MPC-HC has no problems at all with the EVR renderer selected. As far as codec packs, I'm just relying on Shark007's packs to keep me up to date with the latest codecs, splitters, etc.

Really, try VMR9 Renderless, it's simply lovely.. + it gets u HQ subs.. the only downside it might be that it's supposedly a bit more CPU hungry, but I haven't noticed.. might be a few %..anyway, i think it's worth it, and of course u can experiment w/ the others.. overlay mixer should be fast.. anyway, i also noticed EVR doesn't cooperate with KMP perfectly w/ some videos (green frames &...)
