vitorio
I plan to upgrade today a friend PC from Windows Vista to Window 7. What I have until now: Backup of Windows Vista disk Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (x64) - DVD (English) Windows Vista (x64) with Service pack 2 key for Windows 7 I think I am ready to begin as soon as the backup finish. My question: Any last minute advise before I begin the process?, please. Thanks for the help in this project.
dcs18
You might want to take a full (mirror) backup of the existing Vista — using Acronis, Macrium or whichever imaging software you're comfortable with. Instead of a in-place upgrade, I'd personally opt for a full clean re-install — in case you decide to follow my suggestion you might want to take a look at this tutorial. eurobyn
I think you will have to do a clean install i think vista will be in 32bits (x86) mode and can not upgrade to 64 bits (x64) mode. Its is also a bad idea to upgrade to windows 7 i think you could better use youre windows 7 key to do a clean install to windows 10 with the windows 7 key you have. dhjohns
If you decide to do a clean install why not go for Windows 10 since Windows 7 is basically a dead OS. Just a little over a year, and no security updates or anything else. End of life.
Whoopenstein
Make sure you have the drivers on a USB stick (chipset, sound, video, wifi, network)
