Apple CEO Tim Cook has upped the ante in its denial of an investigative report claiming a Chinese spy chip was embedded into the tech giant's servers, telling BuzzFeed News that Bloomberg must retract the story--"This did not happen. There's no truth to this."

"I was involved in our response to this story from the beginning," Cook said according to Buzzfeed. "I personally talked to the Bloomberg reporters along with Bruce Sewell who was then our general counsel. We were very clear with them that this did not happen, and answered all their questions. ... Each time they brought this up to us, the story changed and each time we investigated we found nothing."

“There is no truth in their story about Apple,” Cook added in the interview. "They need to do that right thing and retract it."

Bloomberg issued a statement to Buzzfeed, saying it stands by its reporting, which included spending more than a year on the story and more than 100 interviews.

“Seventeen individual sources, including government officials and insiders at the companies, confirmed the manipulation of hardware and other elements of the attacks," the spokesman told the news organization. "We also published three companies’ full statements, as well as a statement from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We stand by our story and are confident in our reporting and sources.”

Bloomberg Businessweek in its October story alleged that data center hardware used by Apple and Amazon Web Services, provided by server company Super Micro, was under surveillance by the Chinese government.

Amazon denied that its hardware had been compromised, the Department of Homeland Security said it had "no reason to doubt" Apple and Amazon's denials of the report and Apple sent a letter to Congress saying the report was without merit.

Apple earlier issued a lengthy, stern response on its company blog, saying in part:

"Apple has never found malicious chips in our servers. ... Finally, in response to questions we have received from other news organizations since Businessweek published its story, we are not under any kind of gag order or other confidentiality obligations."

In the big picture  of things it would not matter of they removed it or not ..Wether or not apple had spy chips are there problem but the damage is already done.  The drugs that are killing Americans coming from China seem to be a much more of  a  problem than spychips and that's all on the blackmarket,  but regardless of this outcome it still dont stop Tariffs on  computer chips . The reason  big tech dont like something this said that in the USA they have stockpiles of computer chips and devices with them already in them from china in warehouses and  if they buy ones they dont have in stock its going to cost  even more .

“Any material (such as AIBs) that arrives in a US port (includes airports)... gets the 10 percent tax applied to it. That tax will have to be passed on,” analyst Jon Peddie wrote in an email. He said that major vendors keep roughly 30-days worth of inventory in the U.S., so he predicts prices will rise in the middle or at the end of October

However, OEMs can potentially use their supply chains to avoid the tariffs. For example, a company manufacturing a component in China to be sold in a pre-built system could send it to a manufacturer outside of the United States to be assembled and then shipping to America. It’s less clear if there’s a way for companies to do this with individual components, though.

Manufacturers could also move their supply chains outside of China, but that would be costly and take a lot of time. Still, recent reports suggest that companies have been planning these shifts for a long time.

All companies are treated equally. Or maybe, not so much, in the Trump era.

Apple dodged a bullet in the latest round of President Trump’s tariffs on trade with China. But the bigger question is, just how vulnerable is big tech to Trump’s erratic tariff and trade policy with the world’s biggest tech partner?

But for some reason, there was no tax on Apple’s Smartwatch, AirPod headphones or its HomePod smart speaker. Apple, armed with its cavalry of lobbyists, successfully wooed the Trump administration away from slamming its products with surcharges.

So what exactly is the Trump administration’s big tech policy, when it comes to China? And how can Google, Amazon, Facebook and other massive US tech companies avoid being collateral damage the next time the President hurls a trade grenade into China?

One stated goal of the Trump administration is to prevail upon Apple and other big tech manufacturers to build their products here in the U.S. Apple CEO Tim Cook has said that while iPhones are assembled in China, many parts, including glass and chips, are made in the US.

Apple escaped Tariffs by being the biggest butt kisser but that dont  help no one but apple . :tooth:

Country folks can survive

Electronics were very expensive back then if you bought imports back then they were even more costly  ,But its going to hurt much more this time,  because now theirs the internet and people  depend on them much more than they use too . So you will see people not buying  much and using what they got tell its over.

Bloomberg is not one of those media sources who tends to publish data they can't back up.  I would believe Bloomberg over Tim Cook, not only for their good reputation but based on other information also.

It dont mater if there's any evidence , people rather believe fake news than real news because it's a big juicy story  . Your talking about the internet were  most people never even visited a news site and got there news from Facebook  were they could be influenced,  tell Facebook started banning the news  and people were forced to start using web search and news website apps.  I even seen it at this site  plenty of times post no more true than  a man in the moon or cracks  that didn't work be voted up to be popular .

Most people that like Apple is going get there news from a Apple fanboy site that's going side with Apple if what they say is  true are or not, and most people who  dont like Apple ois going get there news from and Anti Apple tech site it dont matter if what say about is true or not.

Facebook banned a lot of news posters that had there own agenda  last week that was pro this and anti that

Why you think Trump says the lefts news is fake?  its not because its all fake or even he thinks its all fake , Its to discredit them only . He says its fake then  his supporters think its fake and even many  people to young to vote even think the news is  fake.  He knows people will believe anything there told based on there agenda  ..Bloomberg use to be a Right wing news outlet  but was changed to the center because they posted Juicy stories on the right as well . :tooth:

Bloomberg dont need to prove nothing , Apple needs to  prove  them wrong ,  because it was said about Apple not Bloomberg  .  and this still it want help China because like it or not they are millions of old people in the USA  like  straycat19 that believe everything the FBI says and the FBI says China are a bigger threat to the USA than Russia is right now and they have dozens of reasons.

When Apple went to court with the FBI  about IOS they was as many  people from the USA that wanted Apple to help the FBI  than were against it.  Our  opinions on the law vary greatly..   And look at  nir he likes your post that Bloomberg should prove it  but he was the one who posted the 1st news on here that Amazon and Apple had spy chips in there products to began with,  he help  spread it too everyone  on this board  anyway , some people the only news they bother to read comes from here ..So he even thinks the news is fake so why did he post it?  if  i'm in doubt i don't post it and if i find out it not true i nuke my own post lol:rofl:

@steven36 Wow. You answered pretty well and largely said the right things :)

I think @straycat19 might believe the FBI so because he says he has been involved in cladestine agencies and managing their tech-buzz. Although some things I may not agree, but some other things he says seem to have some substance to them.

I do understand why he defends Bloomberg, but here is the thing:
TIm Cook will keep on denying to avoid any controversy, fallout or lawsuits or all. Bloomberg story might have some substance to it, but it does not clearly establish the chip story as explained in one of the articles posted by @nir.

Although the entire story on both sides do not pass the sniff-test, it does not mean that we should not think that any super-power will not do anything to target its opposition's power i.e. does the US not try to do the same?

In short, it's a fair game in the world of power but not so for people like us who want peace, privacy and stability.

I hope I did not hurt anyone's sentiments.
Peace out.

Heres a follow  up on it that shows what we know  no more than before . The FBI are not siding with  Apple or Bloomberg and wont comment on it,  and there is no way to  know who is telling the truth . Anyone who says otherwise are just siding and dont really know..  Apple is not the law if Tim Cook's PR  had any clout and he had any proof he would be not posting on Apple's blog he would take bloomberg  to court for slander . but bloomberg  dont have no proof ether  So its just his word against theirs. Then if the FBI ever can prove it there is very little chance it  that who ever done it would ever stand trial .  I seen crazy stuff like this before said  about Kaspersky that came out in the WSJ  and they ended up losing there contract with the Government and a guy from the NSA ended up going to jail. We will just have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully what Bloomberg says is not true or the FBI dont find any proof..
