Kalju
This is typical. There is nothing to clean if restart don't help, You can clean icon cache, but usually it isn't the problem. If after restart isn't OK, then is most likely changed the registry value, what selects the arrow style (or another icon)what is placed on the main icon. Usually it is arrow, but You can change it as You like. So first thing is restar, ...if nothing changes, then we can continue. 12 minutes ago, knowledge said: i see u have ccleaner when u rightclick do u see open with ? can u post a list of programs u have installed i have seen this befor with a program but i cant think the name of it this can be fixed do u have things like 7zip or winrar ?i think u have did something like this Spoiler - Most likely - not this!!! Kalju
Look at this image in the first post - all the icons are correct, there are only missing arrows in the icons. Instead the arrows is simply white icon. It is mostly the same, what is here. Long time ago I also wrote how to change and repair these icons, but now cannot find. But it is mostly the same, what is needed, but as I alredy said, usually there is not needed nothing to repair. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-shortcut-icon-arrow-overlay-in-windows-vista/ Or search with Google "desktop icons arrows remove" or "desktop icons arrows change". This is called an Icon Overlay (windows 10 have 15 overlays in total - each for different situation). The most popular of them is the shortcut arrow overlay : In your screenshot, only shortcuts have overlays i think you have your icons cache databases somehow corrupted or so Try this Thumbnail and Icon Cache Rebuilder for Windows 10: if it doesn't work, try to delete databases and let windows rebuild them itself : Type in command prompt with admin privileges: cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer attrib –h iconcache_*.db del iconcache_*.db start explorer or go to that folder and manually delete all iconcache_*.db (you need to kill Explorer.exe process and take ownership of the files to delete them) (restart required)

It's great, but as long as you have not found the reason that caused this situation, it may be occur again. If there is no reason, nothing happens. mp3it
Yup! Same thing happened to me not too long ago after a windows update. I had previously done a regedit to remove the shortcut arrow from the desktop icons. I just went back and undid the fix and it is as it should be with shortcut arrow. neeraj
You seem to have lost the shortcut arrow icon thats on the lower left corner of every shortcut. 😅

By default it is there, but You can remove it at any time, if You like without arrows. Arrows are not mandatory.
