SPECTRUM
that model is one of the know models that fails with integrated video chip due high temperature, and the only way to fix that is doing reflow or reballing.

Whoopenstein
Is it possible that the power jack on the laptop is broken? The battery could be totally drained and using the power adapter won't work if it can't feed the motherboard. It's a pretty common problem. Whoopenstein
I'm talking about the power jack inside the case This one looks like it's soldered to the board. It could have a cracked solder joint or the center pin is cracked in the back. Google "Compaq Presario V2000 power jack" You can find replacements for sale and I saw at least one youtube video on how to replace. Before replacing, Look very carefully with a magnifier for cracked solder. The center pin in the back (photo on right) is usually where the solder breaks. If you find a crack - get someone that can solder and have them try to fix before replacing the whole thing. Yeah, the power adapter could be bad too - try another adapter.

You need an update and any AV is useless without database updates daily, so better never block it.
