[HELP]Text File data recovery

Recommended Posts

Hi, Hope all of you are doing well. I want to know that I recovered two text files from R-Studio 8.5 Network build 170237. But they are unreadable. Checking on google I found that their encoding method is changed. Not sure on how I can make them simple English again. If any one can decode them

Here's what I could find:

  • Your first text file looks random (unrecoverable)
  • Your second text file is a .gz compressed file, according to TrIDNet (a binary file identifier)

I renamed the second file appending the .gz extension next to it.

None of my other tools except a software called WinMount could extract it without error:

I tried WinRAR & 7-Zip, then finally WinMount.

There's a file in the .gz archive is called Downloads_2.txt but it's a JFIF (JPEG) file, according to TrIDNet.

Here's the actual picture:

Downloads_2.txt.jpg

If you wanted to recover text files, it's not possible: the files have been overwritten :(

I suggest that you try Shadow Explorer and see if your file is still in one of your drive's previous versions.

Yes I tried to recover the Files but as You said the files are overwritten. There was a cross in R-studio indicating that they are overwritten. These are both text files which I used to keep a note of important things.

No, Both are text files. None of them is a picture. Both had a .txt extension.

What about xml version of the file

That XML looks good : Notepad++ hasn't detected any errors upon loading this file.

However there are some non-printable chars at the end:

null_chars.png

You can remove them using Notepad++, it'll be able to show the non-printable chars.

You might have a previous versions of your text files on your drive, you should try Shadow Explorer.

The previous versions might be a day old, a week, but you'll atleast have recovered something :(

So can you tell me what exactly I have to do in xml format in notepad++. I was thinking it is a language problem. I thought it is showing me hex and in order to convert it to plain English I need to use a converter.

It is very hard that I can get the previous versions as it may already be overwritten. Also I did not had shadow Explorer installed when this happened so I can revert back to a old copy.

Thanks for all you did

The XML file is not in hex, it's just the end of the file that contains some non-printable chars: In Notepad++ these are like any other char such as a, b, c, etc.

You can remove them just like you would select & remove some text in a document. I removed these for you incase you had trouble removing them.

However, the XML file is already in plain English; there's no need to use a converter.

There's no risk in installing Shadow Explorer since your files are already overwritten, and 'Previous versions' of drives (or 'Shadow Copies') are files themselves, so they can't be overwritten: you can safely use Shadow Explorer to check if there's anything you can recover.

No it was in plain English.

What do you mean by text contain " things like soldier  or blocking  domain in the text ? "

The Files weer deleted and were overwriten. So I thought I could encode them. But now there is no way??
