Ahmad_Al_Hajaya
As the title suggests, this is about windows system sounds, so a couple of days ago, all system sounds stopped working i.e (notifications, warnings, device connected, etc.. ) I did not install any new software that might cause this, nor had a windows update. Installed windows version 10 1803 OS build 17134.81 Installed security software is Kaspersky Total Security 2018 I tried the following to fix it: removed FxSound Enhancer. reinstalled audio drivers. tried sfc /scannow command. scoured the internet for a fix. checked the volume mixer to see if sounds were muted. Hopefully someone would be able to help with this, cause frankly it's driving me crazy.

jramon2566
Try this: click on the sound icon in the taskbar. Then on the speaker icon and go to the enhancements tab and "turn off all sound effects". Accept the changes and restart the system.

mincemeat
Perhaps have a look at the "App volume and device preferences" settings. There is an option to change the volume of the systems sounds, as well as to change the output device. I have had a situation happen where sounds tried to go out via my HDMI output instead of my speakers, so it may be that the device is incorrect. Good luck! If even this does not help, you will get suggestions on how to proceed. First see what Windows itself recommends, if no help, let us to know what the situation. The bleepingcomputer.com is the very last place to go. There You may get everything else, but no help.

Kalju
All Windows system sounds are .wav files, is it enabled in your system and in the default media player? Does this registry key exist HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav It's default content Spoiler Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav] @="WMP11.AssocFile.WAV" "Content Type"="audio/wav" "PerceivedType"="audio" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav\OpenWithProgids] "AppXqj98qxeaynz6dv4459ayz6bnqxbyaqcs"=hex(0): "WMP11.AssocFile.WAV"=hex(0): [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav\PersistentHandler] @="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav\ShellEx] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11D1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}] @="{9DBD2C50-62AD-11D0-B806-00C04FD706EC}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav\ShellEx\{e357fccd-a995-4576-b01f-234630154e96}] @="{9DBD2C50-62AD-11D0-B806-00C04FD706EC}" Does your system play .wav files? Kalju
Now we have to investigate and think about that. Probably there is a place where can ban the system's sound and it's probably forbidden, but at the moment I do not know where that place is. If somebody knows, is good if they let us also to know. Kalju
You may also be looking at this place: Open Control Panel => All Control Panel Options => Sound then if the window opens select table Sound See if everything is the same as here, then select all sounds along the way and click on "Test" (below). Select Program Events one-by-one and click "Test" NB! There may be not any sounds selected, if so, You can select Yourself. You need to hear the sounds if they work. Kalju
Then should be everything OK. Maybe do restart, but better if You shut down, wait some seconds and turn on again. If it is laptop or something similar, remove the battery for couple seconds. Maybe some default settings is not correct, this helps them restore. It's a desktop, and I've been facing this issue for a few days now, so I've restarted and shutdown the PC a lot. 5 minutes ago, jordan4x said: Try the following too: - Select "Windows Default" scheme - Click "Save As" and give it a different name (You can also customize it and give it a different name) - Check "Play Windows Startup sound" (to see immediately if it's working) - Click "Apply". maybe log-off needed That also didn't work, but the start up sound works only if I restart the PC. It should not be on your computer. Maybe to think about it.
