If the site didn't have much downtime before, they might just have considered it reliable enough. If one thinks a site is unlikely to be down, he might as well consider it overkill to use mirrors. As a solution, mods could make a sticky advising people to provide mirrors incase the their main links go down. Meta / off-topic, but same problem: I see great software release posts coming with only the official website links for the installers, so if the dev updates the link you can't have the past version anymore.
