anuraag
The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) provides the libraries, the Java Virtual Machine, and other components to run applets and applications written in the Java programming language. In addition, two key deployment technologies are part of the JRE: Java Plug-in, which enables applets to run in popular browsers; and Java Web Start, which deploys standalone applications over a network. Users should install the 32-bit version if they are using 32-bit browsers. If you use both 32-bit and 64-bit browser interchangeably, you need a Java Plug-in for each browser. Hence you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java respectively. Thanks to Matsuda for the update.Download

debebee
Yeah , many software have that habit of retaining old versions along with the new one e.g. JPSoft Take Command, Opera, Chrome, etc That is why it is a good idea to have a 3rd party uninstaller to clean up.. and a file manager (xyplorer or total commander) to clean up the program's directories

In my personal experience about this, at all times when the most recent came configured to uninstall previous versions, it did the service... But Oracle does not bring this in every update... Reason?!

dcs18
While some programs might justify the incisive slash from a 3rd party uninstaller, Java is definitely not one of those — also, its installation directory should never be cleaned-up, under any circumstance. FWIW, the Add or remove programs panel works perfectly fine, just as it should — for the purpose of un-installing Java.
