Administrator Lite Posted September 18, 2009 Administrator Share Posted September 18, 2009 Last year Symantec pulled out all the stops to reduce Norton Internet Security's impact on system performance. This year's version of the suite, Norton Internet Security 2010 ($69.99 direct for 3 licenses), focuses both on improving the user's experience and raising overall protection. As we saw with our early look at the beta of Norton Internet Security 2010, the release version succeeds at both aims without sacrificing performance, securing its position as our Editors' Choice. RobrPatty
Sounds good to me. I am currently using it. It's fast and doesn't use up any resources. And box has a real nice workaround for it.So am real pleased with it.

Jota.Ce
Hi, people, i've asked for this in other threads, but i'd like to know an opinion to decide between NIS or Endpoint Protection for a home PC.Based on performance, resource needs, protection obtained,...Also, info about SEP firewall (is it only rule-based?). jalaffa
Suggestion:Why don't you do the testing on this Jota.Ce?
Jota.Ce
I'll take your suggestion into acount.I'm more decided to try SEP first. But i'd like to know if ZWT release will last or it will be blacklisted 2 days after xDSo i'll try SEP and tell you, but i won't compare with NIS if it's good. RadioActive
Nice review, so far what I don't like about NIS 2010 is it doesn't give me the option to NOT to install certain modules during the setup that I might not need.
mara-
OK guys, I have some problems with ESET and I'm considering to try NIS 2010. So, I have few questions: Is NIS 2010 in final version or still beta? How often some fixes are necessary to use? I mean, how long box fixes lasts and is his solution more permanent? If I'll have to deal with this problem every few days, then I'll skip this product.Cheers ;)
Arrombador
I used Norton 2009 for almost a year to, i can say it's faster than eset smart security, and very powerful security, and eset give me some network problems, when norton 100% no problems at all, just is hard to make a fix to work compared to eset. ESET Freak
Me too, I've used Norton for years until it became a resource-hogger, because another old Pentium 4 with only 512MB RAM PC of mine couldn't handle it, even my notebook does, but I still prefer to switch because it'll save me a fortune if I buy 3 PC license instead of two security suites for two computers, so I went for Kaspersky and ESET afterwards. When Norton 2009 is out I grabbed it when it's just out and I never regretted, it runs on my old PC without slowdowns and lags, and I've to admit it's faster than ESET and I feel safer with it (I wish I could change my nickname in this forum xD). And guess what? Norton gives you free upgrades and it's very simple. I upgraded my 2009 to 2010 without probs.
karachidude
ok...i use Norton AntiVirus 2010...My non-technical ReviewNote:This is at default settingsthe pluses1)its the fastest at startup by far, faster than Eset or Kaspersky.Even with my Pentium D,it doesnt take time..as i have said before, use it to believe it.2)Its powerfull as always, with fantastic detection and removal, normally people are under the impression that AV's dont scan rar'ed files and they skip them,so if u store a keygen there its safe,NOT THE CASE WITH NAV,it recently removed a keygen that i downloaded and didnt use, during background maintainence, and it was rar'ed.3)This one has fantastic default settings,it schedules scans and searches, when the sytem is idle, and if it doesnt find the system idle for too many days...it starts its maintainance work, without disturbing the user..and shows the logs to rectify if needed..THE MAINTANENCE WORK DOES NOT SLOW DOWN THE PC(my PC)4)It takes considerably time at full scan, than any I have used..again use it to believe it..its as simple as that.5)Another great addition i find in this AV(Note its not an internet suite, its just an AV), is that it blocks bad pages on the browser, whenever it thinks theres danger in going through that page. The minus'es1)Sometimes the browser page block function, proves to be a pain,it sometimes blocks pages which are not bad...it constantly block some MDL pages i go to..but after some refreshes and wait it allows it to open.2)Two or three times in the last two months or so,when i start my PC,it starts to show a read cross on its icon telling that its not upto date, and the ur computer is at risk notification shoots in...but it goes away after u open it and press the Fix it button,it makes a quck scan..and everything comes back to normal.Well thats what i have experienced.I hope people find this usefull
mara-
This maybe little off-topic, but I don't want to make a new topic for this question. I'm seeing some OEM Activated editions to download. Does anyone tried this and what does it mean? Is it some activated edition from Symantec and for how long is activated (permanently or some time limitation)? Or is it some fixed edition with fixes from Box? Or something third? Thanks in advance for information.Cheers ;)

Night Owl
@OthersI still want to know about those OEM editions. Can anybody provide info? Here's some info that hopefully will help: What's the difference between retail version of Norton internet security 2009 and its OEM version? mara-
OK, thanks, it helped. But, I more interested how are they "fixed". I guess I probably have to download it an install in Virtual Machine to check. The thing is that I need to download all their OEM products, it can't be downloaded individually.Cheers ;)
