[Solved] Google Chrome Updates

G'day guys

Is there a way to stop Google Chrome updates?  It updates without warning and every time it updates spoils my settings and my bookmarks. I tried to disable Google Updates in Cclener, startup, scheduled tasks, but it keeps updating and buggers it up.

Any help I'll appreciate. Although, not a critical issue it is annoying.

Google Chrome installer is not mandatory and it is self standing program. So the simplest way is to use these installers, which are without updater.
But any update cannot change your bookmarks and personal settings. They are not in any way related to Chrome updates.

Another way is to block updater with startup, disable auto checking for updates etc, but has I said, updater is not mandatory to install. You can always use installers without updater.

There are different ways to do this but sometimes it can revert back !

- Registry key

- Using Group Policy

- Remove Entries from Task Scheduler and disable services

The only permanent solution is to rename "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Update" folder to UpdateOff for example

Or you can rename the updater itself "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe" to GoogleUpdate.bak

After doing this, remove entries from Task Scheduler and set services to Disabled

You can always re-enable it if you need to.

What I meant to say was: it changes the format of the bookmarks.

Jordan,

I did all you suggest. I see what happens.

Thanks Guys

Google Chrome Update folder regularly deleted is what I do. No problems. Then run CCleaner to clean up the reg. and startup entries.

try this

set the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Update\AutoUpdateCheckPeriodMinutes to the REG_DWORD value of "0".

Thank you for the tip. I did it and it's working fine.

I could not find that in the registry. I'm using W 8.1, 64, Pro.

This is the bookmark manager I was talking about:

Thank you all for your help. I don't think I'll have any more problems with updates.
