luisam
When trying to open any PDF file, Office 16 returns "Word cannot start converter PDF files". It DOES show the document in the preview panel up to the last detail; but won't open it. Some time ago, I used this function without problem, though in some cases it's not very efficient. Office 16 is duely activated for Windows 7 64 bits Ultimate - As first step, tried to "repair" Office 16, with no result - Uninstalled Office 16 and run the application provided by Microsoft to remove all traces of Office 16, restarted and then reinstalled Office, no restult - The same again, but this time I resinstalled Office 16 32 bits (a different version of Office), no result - Tried ro reinstall another different version of Office 16, 32 bits & 54 bits; it was rejected because supposedly parts of another version of Office were still prersent. - Run again the application provided by Microsoft to remove all traces of Office 16, restarted and tried again to reinstall Office, same alert: parts of another version of Office are still prersent, can't install. The application provided by Microsoft indicated that there were no traces of Office . - So finally reinstalled the original 64 bit version, smoothly, without any problem but of course, still can't convert PDF from Office 2016. Now, this function of Office 2016 is not really fundamental for me. I can open, and edit PDF with NitroPDF, Foxit PhantoPDF Business and Infix, but somehow it is annoying! Anyone has any clue, to do what still hadn't tried - except reinstall Windows!
Buffoon
One of the required components is not blocked e.g. with Comodo? Office 2016 and *.pdf

Thanks for your suggestion but for sure I don't have anything blocked. 28 minutes ago, sefton22 said: don't think Word can open PDF's only save documents as a PDF or convert them for editing text... Just as you wrote: It converts PDF text files to a docx format word files and user can edit it. And certainly sometimes the converted document doesn't look very good. But my Office 16 won't do any conversion. I only get this "Word cannot start converter PDF files" message. Office 16 is quite limited to make a good PDF to Word conversion and that's just the reason I don't really find it so useful and I get better editing possibilities with a proper PDF editor. But annoys me that I can't find the reason why this feature is not working.
sefton22
have a look at this http://www.isumsoft.com/office/cannot-open-pdf-with-word-2013-what-to-do.html if no joy try this out, it works very well the download links are at the bottom of the post
luisam
I already found and tested those recommendations by isumsoft.com with no luck. As for Salar's post, I don't quite understand. Up to my understanding, it's an activation option. I have Office 2016 activated. I already uninstalled it completely and then reinstalled and I don't believe that the problem is with activation. Actually, as I wrote, it opens PDF files to show them on the preview panel but won't continue with tha conversion Maybe the only test I haven't done is uninstal Office 2016 and install Office 2013, which has the same option, just to see if it works
